Ormond Beach is not as well-known as Daytona Beach, its neighbor to the south, but it’s an ideal Florida retirement destination. There are miles of sandy shores and impressive Atlantic waves for surfing as well as a good selection of communities.

Among the various Ormond Beach real estate options, five active adult communities in and around town have a lot going for them. They have affordable housing options, they’re well-located, and each community is full of friendly people and fun amenities.

Ormond Renaissance

Mid $200s – Mid $300s

Ormond Renaissance is a 55+ community with many of the amenities that active adults seek.

Low-maintenance condo living in one of 18 new buildings at Ormond Renaissance is an appealing option for buyers looking for comfort, quality, and community. Once completed, there will be 280 units in two and three-bedroom models. They will start at 1,248 square feet and go to 1,515 square feet. With high ceilings, granite counters, and underground assigned parking, residents can take advantage of every modern upgrade without having to worry about exterior maintenance or landscaping.

Ormond Renaissance is a 55+ community with many of the amenities that active adults seek. There’s a clubhouse with a great room and a conference room, a fitness center, and a catering kitchen for social events and community parties.

Outdoors, there’s a pool and patio as well as plenty of parks, a trail leads out of the community and into the local neighborhood, where there are shops, restaurants, grocery stores, and a YMCA. The community is close to some of the Atlantic Coast’s best hospitals and pharmacies as well as Interstate 95 and the Daytona Beach International Airport.

Huntington at Hunter’s Ridge

Another new 55+ community in Ormond Beach is Huntington at Hunter’s Ridge, where active adults can choose from over a dozen home models offered by multiple builders. Attached villas and single-family homes are available in sizes that range from 1,517 to 2,235 square feet. They have two or three bedrooms and special features like zero-entry showers and energy-efficient appliances and systems.

The amenities are impressive, especially for buyers who enjoy unique treasures and special touches. For example, private liquor and wine cellars are available as well as a bar, a fishing pier, and a great room in the 12,500 square-foot clubhouse which is simply named The Club. Residents also have access to the fitness center and the yoga and aerobics studio as well as the library and the card room.

Several pools are spread out through the community, and there’s a place for pickleball, bocce, tennis, and softball. It’s close to I-95 and the historic downtown district, known as Ormond Main Street.

Plantation Bay Golf & Country Club

Another golf community is Halifax Plantation, a gated community in Ormond Beach that is open to all ages and ideal for active adults who want to spend as much time as possible out on the fairway.

There are a number of membership options to fit any lifestyle and budget, giving residents access to the 25,000-square-foot clubhouse, the 18-hole championship golf course, and amenities like the fitness center, ballroom, and meeting rooms. Residents enjoy the driving range and practice bunker as well as the pro shops and chipping green. There are also tennis courts, a pool, and a pub.

Single-family homes, attached villas, and townhomes are available in a wide range of floor plans and models. Residents looking for space, luxury, and style can choose Villa Constancia, a model which has five bedrooms, four-and-a-half bathrooms, a three-car garage, 4,469 square feet, and a private pool.

More modest buyers can select new or resale homes starting at 1,617 square feet with two bedrooms. There are always special events taking place for the community at Halifax Plantation, including dinners, brunches, happy hours, and holiday festivities.

Breakaway Trails

Just under 1,000 single-family homes can be found at Breakaway Trails. They have three to six bedrooms and range from 1,843 to 3,679 square feet. Options and upgrades, such as second-floor loft spaces, extended master suites, and bonus rooms are available. It’s easy to get to the Daytona International Speedway and the Andy Romano Beachfront Park.
