Located on the border of Arizona in Southern Nevada, Mesquite is in the northeastern Mojave Desert. Its climate is typical of the desert: long, hot, and dry summers with cool winters. Unlike nearby Las Vegas, Mesquite does not experience the urban heat island effect, making nighttime temperatures in the summer more comfortable, but winters generally colder. The city lies adjacent to the Virgin Mountains near the southern mouth of the Virgin River Gorge. Interstate 15 passes through the city, with direct access to Las Vegas to the southwest and St. George to the northeast.
