Climate & Geography

Located on the border of Arizona in Southern Nevada, Mesquite is in the northeastern Mojave Desert. Its climate is typical of the desert: long, hot, and dry summers with cool winters. Unlike nearby Las Vegas, Mesquite does not experience the urban heat island effect, making nighttime temperatures in the summer more comfortable, but winters generally colder. Residents can expect very little rain, no snow, and about 294 days of sun each year.

The city lies adjacent to the Virgin Mountains near the southern mouth of the Virgin River Gorge. Interstate 15 passes through the city, with direct access to Las Vegas to the southwest and St. George to the northeast.

Recreation, Culture & Entertainment

Mesquite is a haven for active adults seeking outdoor recreation. Whitney Pockets and Little Finland are smaller walking trails with a variety of unique rock formations. Larger hiking trails are close by, including the 300,000 acres at Gold Butte National Monument, straight south of the city. Surrounding the Gold Butte area are Lake Mead National Recreation Area and Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument.

Golfers have plenty of choices when it comes to courses. Mesquite is home to many clubs, including the Wolf Creek Golf Club, the No. 3 course in Nevada, where players can enjoy scenic red rock formations throughout the 18 holes. Other courses include Conestoga Golf Club, Coyote Springs Golf Clubs, Falcon Ridge Golf Club, CasaBlanca Golf Club, and The Palms Golf Club.
