Interested buyers can find a large selection of new construction and resale properties in scenic and desirable neighborhoods with amenities such as golf courses, state-of-the-art fitness centers, and resort-style pools.

Here are some of the most sought-after 55+ communities in Central Florida with reasonably priced homes and all the social and recreational opportunities that active adults look for in a Florida retirement.

Cypress LakesLakeland, FL

Two golf courses are available to residents at Cypress Lakes in Lakeland, a Central Florida city off Interstate 4 that’s within an hour’s drive of Tampa and Orlando. This 55+ community also offers activities and events at the Big Cypress Club, a 30,000-square-foot clubhouse that includes a fitness center, an aerobics studio, a library with computers, meeting rooms, and space for crafts, hobbies, billiards, and cards. There’s also a catering kitchen and a restaurant with a walk-up window. Outside, there are pools, tennis and pickleball courts, fishing lakes, and a firepit. Also, golfers enjoy the driving range and putting green.

The single-family resale homes in this community offer plenty of indoor and outdoor space. Many have back porches and screened patios. With more than 20 models, homes range from 1,008 to 1,920 square feet with two or three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a carport or an attached one-car garage. Many floor plans include a den, and buyers can also look for homes with extra storage and large master suites.

If materials matter, buyers can choose a frame and vinyl exterior or one of the modern models with block and stucco construction.

In the Lifestyle Center, residents can expect to find an exercise room, a craft room, and billiards space. There’s also a ballroom and a bowling alley with eight lanes. Outside, there’s a pool and a spa as well as a spacious patio, tennis courts, shuffleboard courts, and bocce ball courts. Residents who love to fish can enjoy the stocked fishing ponds and the tranquility of a day on the water. It’s a sprawling 55+ community that’s currently 60,000 properties strong and growing. There are single-family homes, attached villas, condo units, and manufactured homes available in resale condition or as new construction. Every possible amenity is included, from tennis courts and pools to town squares and meeting spaces. There are also softball fields, houses of worship, restaurants, and shopping centers.

Finding a home at The Villages for under $200k is more than possible. The Patio Villas are right in that price range, and they offer 1,163 to 1,190 square feet with two bedrooms and two bathrooms. These homes have lanais and attached one-and-a-half car garages so residents can park their golf carts as well. Cottage Homes are also in this price range, and they offer 15 floor plans with 1,255 to 2,003 square feet and two to four bedrooms.
