Though the cost of living in Deerfield Beach is slightly higher than the national average, this is entirely because transportation is much higher. In contrast, housing is much more affordable and well below average for Florida, as are health care and utilities. Residents can expect groceries to cost the same as the U.S. average.

Florida is a popular destination for retirees because it has no income tax, as well as very low property taxes. Deerfield Beach has a 7 percent sales tax, near the average for the country, but groceries and medication are exempt.

Deerfield Beach has one high performing hospital according to U.S. News, Broward Health North. It ranks highly for hip replacements. Very close to Deerfield, Boca Raton Regional Hospital is also ranked as high performing and the No. 8 hospital in the Miami area. Within 10 miles are three more high performing hospitals: Northwest Medical Center-Margate, Delray Medical Center, and Holy Cross Hospital-Fort Lauderdale.
