Londonderry is a small town in New Hampshire, that sits in between Manchester and Derry.  

Its prime location and relaxed atmosphere have made it a desirable option for retirees. Aside from that, the city is known for its apple orchards and is in proximity to the many amenities of Manchester. 

Climate & Geography

Located in Rockingham County, in Southern New Hampshire, Londonderry has a humid continental climate type. The summers are sunny and warm, while winters are freezing, and it is partly cloudy year round. Residents can expect more snow than the national average and about 200 sunny days a year. 

The town is home to a number of rivers and lakes including Beaver Brook, Little Cohas Brook, Watts Brook, and Colby Brook, all of which flow into the Merrimack River. Londenderry is largely surrounded by rural farmland. 

Recreation, Culture , & Entertainment

Londonderry has a tight-knit, neighborly culture with plenty of local shops, breweries, and restaurants. Due to its rural setting, Londonderry has many outdoor attractions where residents can interact with nature such as Mack’s Apples, Elwood Orchards, and Stony Field Farm, where residents can take tours or shop for fruits and vegetables. 

The city is proud of their historical appeal which can be seen at places like New Hampshire’s Aviation Historical Society. Due to their proximity, residents of Londonderry can treat Manchester’s metropolitan area as their downtown and enjoy all the amenities of a larger city. 

Cost of Living

The overall cost of living in Londonderry is higher than state and national averages. This is due to the home and housing costs which are well above the U.S median. 

New Hampshire does not tax Social Security benefits or pensions from retirement plans. There are also several tax breaks for residents who are 65+ including property tax exemption for those who live there for at least five years. There is no state sales tax, but New Hampshire’s property taxes are the third highest in the nation.

There are three hospitals and medical centers near Londonderry. In its neighboring city, Manchester, residents can find Lawrence General Hospital, Lowell General Hospital, Catholic Medical Center, and Holy Family Hospital, each ranked high performing in at least one adult procedure by U.S News.
