    Harrisburg is a small town in North Carolina and is considered a suburb in the Charlotte metro area.     Harrisburg’s climate is affected by the western mountains and is classified as humid subtropical, meaning summers are typically hot and humid while winters are mild and wet. Residents can expect an average of 43 inches of rain, 3 inches of snow, and 215 sunny days per year. 

    Located in Cabarrus County, Harrisburg is near the Carolina Piedmont, Uwharrie Mountains, and waterways like Yadkin River, and Rocky River.

    Harrisburg has plenty to offer in activities and attractions thanks to its proximity to Charlotte. Residents can visit the Nascar Hall of Fame, Sea Life Aquarium, or the Concord Mills Mall. Football fans can go to games at the Bank of America Stadium, or listen to their favorite artists play at the Bojangles Coliseum, PNC Music Pavilion, and the Cabarrus Arena and Events Center. 

    Active adults who enjoy spending their down time in the great outdoors can visit the U.S. National Whitewater Center, Crowders Mountain State Park, Carolina Thread Trail, Lake Norman, Lake Wylie and Mountain Island Lake and Lake Norman State park.

    The cost of living in Harrisburg is higher than the state average, and slightly higher than the national average. This is primarily due to high cost of homes and housing, but other factors including transportation and utility costs are below average.

    The effective income tax rate in North Carolina is 5.49 percent for single filers and 5.49 percent for joint filers. Social Security benefits are not taxed in the state, however all other forms of retirement income are taxed at the normal rate. Some North Carolina residents may be eligible for the Bailey Exemption, which gives additional tax breaks to qualifying retirees.
