    North Myrtle Beach is a coastal city in Horry County, South Carolina. It’s located approximately 15 miles northeast of Myrtle Beach, along the shores of the Atlantic Ocean. Retirees that are seeking a beach town with many outdoor activities are sure to appreciate North Myrtle Beach. 

    Climate & Geography

    North Myrtle Beach has a humid subtropical climate, which means summers are hot and humid, while winters are mild and short. The average precipitation is roughly 55 inches of rainfall, less than one inch of snowfall, and there are approximately 211 days of sunshine throughout each year. 

    Atlantic Beach and Briarcliffe Acres border the city to the southwest. Little River borders the city to the northeast. The larger city of Wilmington is approximately 50 miles southwest.

    North Myrtle Beach offers residents plenty of outdoor activities, especially for those who love the beach. Active adults frequently take a stroll and bike ride through Cherry Grove Beach, Windy Hill Beach, Ocean Drive Beach, Crescent Beach, Cherry Grove Pier, and Heritage Shores Nature Preserve. Several golf clubs are scattered throughout the city for residents who enjoy the sport.

    Besides that, a variety of wineries, bars, restaurants, and shopping can be found along the piers.

    The larger city of Wilmington, in North Carolina is near enough for residents to take day trips and explore a wider variety of dining, shopping, and entertainment options. The popular resort city of Myrtle Beach is also close by.

    The cost of living in North Myrtle Beach is slightly less than the national average, but higher than the state average due to its popular coastal location. The primary factor in this is the cost of homes and housing, however health care, utilities, and transportation costs are all below average.

They are Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, Conway Medical Center, and McLeod Loris Seacoast Hospital. All three are rated high performing in various procedures and conditions, according to U.S. News.
