Siesta Retirement Village is a 55+ community of manufactured homes in Weslaco, Texas, a mere five minutes north of the U.S./Mexico border. Residents choose to live here for the warm year-round climate, the fantastic amenities, and ease of getting back and forth to Mexico. Siesta Retirement Village Amenities

Residents at Siesta Retirement Village have access to amenities such as a recreation hall with an exercise center and billiards area. Outside, residents can enjoy relaxing in the heated saltwater pool and hot tub. There are 24 shuffleboard courts and plenty of open space for walking, biking, and jogging.

Construction began on Siesta Retirement Village in 1977, and there are a total of 380 single-family manufactured homes for families with at least one person 55 years of age. The entire community, including the common areas, is owned and operated by resident shareholders and governed by the Declaration of Covenant, Conditions and Restrictions of Siesta Village Subdivision. Residents at Siesta Retirement Community can purchase, lease, or rent the lots their homes are on.

Resale homes are available in a range of sizes and structures. Most of them have two or three bedrooms with one or two bathrooms. They average from 1,100 to 1,700 square feet, and many have carport parking. Some homes include upgrades like new air conditioning units, outdoor sheds, fireplaces, and porches. 

Siesta Retirement Village Lifestyle 

Residents enjoy a low-maintenance lifestyle whether they are full-time homeowners or part-time winter residents. There’s plenty of free time to enjoy the weekly activities and events that are held at Siesta Retirement Village. For artists, there are regular quilting, sewing, and ceramics classes in the crafts room, and aqua exercise classes are often taking place in the pool. Other activities include bridge games, jam sessions for all instruments, bingo, and table tennis. Residents get together for potluck dinners, treasure hunts, and craft fairs.  

Surrounding Area 

Siesta Retirement Village is in a unique location, just five miles from the border with Mexico. It’s located in Weslaco, Texas in the Rio Grande Valley. Nuevo Progreso is the country’s most popular border crossing. It’s within walking distance to a famous birding center, Estero Llano Grande State Park. Residents living in this 55+ community are also close to everything they need, including shopping centers and grocery stores. 

The 1015 Grocery Store is in the area, as well as a Dollar General and Walmart. Sigma Foods isn’t far, and fresh meat can be purchased at Rodriguez Best-Pic & Meats. There are pharmacies, banks, and shops, including souvenir stands on both sides of the border. La Plaza Mall and Donna Crossing have clothing stores and boutiques. 

There’s incredible Mexican cuisine available throughout the Weslaco community. Residents are close to restaurants like Sunrise and Casa de Marisco. For entertainment and nightlife, residents are close to Pins & Cues Bowling Center, Cinemark Movies 10, and popular happy hour spots like Arturo’s Bar & Grill. 

Residents who love the beach will find lots of shorelines nearby on South Padre Island. Lots of lakes surround the community for freshwater fishing opportunities, and golfers will be thrilled to be so close to courses like Llano Grande Golf Course and Tierra Santa Golf Club. 

Siesta Retirement Village also keeps residents close to multiple health care providers, including Knapp Medical Center, Mid Valley Hospital, and Guajira Family Clinic. Crossing the border for medications and dental work is a popular form of medical tourism that’s easy to accomplish from Weslaco.  

Residents who want to visit Mexico simply need to cross the Progreso International Bridge. Siesta Retirement Village is close to other south Texas communities like Corpus Christi and about three or four hours from San Antonio and Houston. For longer trips, Corpus Christi International Airport is 115 miles away.
