Buyers looking for Tampa real estate are smart to consider condominiums. They’re more affordable, easy to maintain, and often feature great views and outstanding amenities. Many active adults planning a Florida retirement consider a move to the Sunshine State’s Gulf Coast, and in the Tampa Bay area, there are more than a dozen 55+ communities with condos for sale.

High $100s - Mid $300s

St. Petersburg is a waterfront city full of art, culture, music, and fantastic food. It also has condos with a view. Sea Towers is a 55+ community great for buyers who want access to a boat dock and a fishing pier while living in a desirable, low-maintenance neighborhood.

In addition to the private lagoon and access to both the Gulf and Boca Ciega Bay, residents enjoy lawn bowling, two pools, shuffleboard, and tennis courts. The clubhouse includes a fitness center, game room, card rooms, sauna, and a library.

Sea Towers has 800 condo units spread throughout nine high-rise buildings. There are elevators as well as security, and the community itself is gated. Condos are between 485 and 1,140 square feet. Some are studios while others have one or two bedrooms. They have one or two bathrooms and an assigned parking space. Each home has a lanai or balcony, and some units come with walk-in closets, extra Florida rooms, and views of the water. Fantastic local beaches are minutes away, such as Pass-a-Grille and Treasure Island.

Northwest of Downtown Tampa, New Port Richey is a growing community, especially for 55+ residents new to Florida. At Beacon Lakes, there are 210 condo homes, which means there’s a real sense of community and multiple opportunities to establish new friendships with neighbors. The clubhouse comes with meeting rooms and an enclosed porch as well as an exercise room, library, and catering kitchen. There’s also a pool and patio, shuffleboard and bocce ball courts, and even gardening plots for residents who want a little of their own greenspace outdoors.

Condo homes are in quad clusters or as attached villas. Units are 1,144 to 1,150 square feet, two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and covered carport parking. Buyers can expect formal dining rooms and upgrades such as wood floors, walk-in closets, and spacious bedrooms. Certain homes include lanais outdoors and plenty of storage and kitchen space. Also, homeowners are close to some great parks, including Starkey Wilderness Park.

For affordable condo living in one of the Tampa Bay area’s most pleasant neighborhoods, 55+ buyers may want to consider Village on the Green in Clearwater, where there’s a lot to do and little to maintain. The active homeowners’ association comes with low dues and takes care of trash, building maintenance, landscaping, and even the cable bill. Clearwater is known for its white-sand beaches and bold sunsets. There’s great shopping and lots of seafood as well as tons of street art, small boutiques, and local artists.

At Village on the Green, buyers can choose single-family homes and attached villas, but there are also plenty of resale condos. Units are found in two-story buildings with balconies or patios. Ranging from 800 to 1,400 square feet, buyers can enjoy one or two bedrooms, one or two bathrooms, and assigned parking.

The amenities at this community include a clubhouse with a ballroom and a multipurpose room, an exercise room, a card room, a library, and a billiards room. There’s also an outdoor pool and patio with a picnic area, shuffleboard courts, and plenty of trails for walking and biking.

Mid $200s - Low $700s

Well-located with views of the Intracoastal Waterway and providing easy access to both Tampa and St. Petersburg, Bay Island is a gated 55+ community providing stunning views and spacious condo homes. Homeowners have access to a waterfront trail for biking, walking, or jogging, and the community also offers a fishing dock, boat slips, and a marina. Six outdoor pools are available to residents as well as two hot tub spas and sports courts. The clubhouse includes a lounge and fitness center as well as a dedicated space for arts and crafts, a ballroom, a library, a billiards room, and a catering kitchen for special events.

The 708 condo units at Bay Island range from 540 to 2,600 square feet. They have one to three bedrooms and one to three-and-a-half bathrooms. Large walk-in closets, spacious master suites, and updated appliances can be found in most units. Floor-to-ceiling windows provide great views of the water from the high-rise condo buildings.

Holiday parties and community events are frequently held at Bay Island. Some of the more popular clubs include poker, table tennis, and biking. Great golf can be found nearby at Twin Brooks Golf Course or Pasadena Yacht & Country Club.

One of the largest and most popular 55+ condo communities in the Tampa Bay area is On Top of the World Clearwater. The nearly 5,000 units found throughout the community range from 850 to 1,750 square feet with one or two bedrooms, one or two bathrooms, and plenty of parking. Some homes have upgrades like marble floors, tile floors, and hurricane shutters. Dozens of clubs are available to residents, including a singles club, bridge club, and theater workshop.

The amenities are especially impressive at On Top of the World Clearwater. There are two golf courses: one 18-hole course and a 9-hole course. There are also two recreation centers with pools, fitness centers, billiards halls, libraries, and meeting rooms. Residents can enjoy the lapidary studio, woodworking shop, computer room, and ceramics studio. On Top of the World Clearwater also puts homeowners near Safety Harbor, where there are shops and beaches, as well as Moccasin Lake and other parks.
