Aventura, FL 55+ Active Adult Retirement Communities
Like many places in Florida retirement communities in Aventura are popular with retirees for a variety of reasons. Aventura is 17 miles north of Miami and has the same type of tropical monsoon classified climate with hot humid summers and short warm winters. The area sees about 11 inches of rain per year, much of it falling during the month of August. Winter temperatures average from 64° to 73. Summer in Aventura is hot with summer temperatures averaging 82° to 88° and 80% humidity. Ocean temperatures range from 74° in February to 87° in August.

Cost of Living & Taxes
Florida is a popular retirement spot partially because of the state’s tax structure. Florida has no income tax, or estate tax. There is a 5.5% corporate income tax and property taxes can be high. There are several exemptions for seniors and low-income residents that can reduce the property tax burden. Property taxes and sales taxes vary by location, the average property tax for Fort Lauderdale is 1.73% of assessed property value. Aventura sales tax is 7% which includes the 6% sales tax plus a 1% Miami-Dade County tax.

There three highly rated hospitals in the Aventura area:
HCA Florida Aventura is a 407 bed Level II trauma center that has won numerous awards from Healthgrades for excellence for gastrointestinal surgery, critical care, patient safety, stroke care and orthopedic surgery.
Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood is a Level I trauma center and has 324 beds. They are accredited by the American College of Cardiology, American Diabetes Association, American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer, and several state agencies.
North Shore Medical Center-Miami has 357 beds, is a comprehensive stroke center and has received multiple awards from Healthgrades, the American Heart/Stroke Association and U.S. News & World Reports.
