Suwanee is a city in Northern Georgia with a vibrant culture and art scene. There is a wide variety of entertainment options that are sure to keep retirees busy, including theaters and sporting events. Besides this, is proximity to Atlanta makes it a popular retirement destination.

Climate & Geography

Located in Gwinnett County, Suwanee has a humid subtropical climate. Winters are short, cold, and wet, and summers are hot and very humid. There is only one inch of snowfall per year, but rainfall and sunny days are both higher than average. 

There are two lakes and three creeks in the area, including Suwanee Creek, which runs through the city. 

Recreation, Culture, & Entertainment 

Residents of Suwanee have many options for recreation and entertainment. Retirees can catch minor league baseball games, women’s basketball games, and theater and musical productions. Suwanee also supports public art, and active adults enjoy the sculptures and murals that are placed throughout the city.

The Gwinnett County park system has nearly 50 facilities and more than 170 multipurpose sports fields. For people who enjoy being outdoors, Sims Lake Park is a 62-acre greenspace with a lake, playground, walking trail, streamscape, and meadow. 

Suwanee’s downtown is made up of two areas: Old Town and Town Center. Old Town is largely residential with an outdoor pavilion that hosts small events, and the Town Center is a mixed-use area with residential, commercial, and large public spaces. Residents of Suwanee enjoy many community events in these areas organized by the city, such as the farmers market, Suwanee Fest, Food Truck Friday, Suwanee Classic Car Show, and more. 

For more entertainment options, Atlanta is less than an hour away.
