    The borough's surrounding terrain is flat with sparsely wooded areas, and consists mostly of residential neighborhoods, with Philadelphia's suburbs located to the north. Large swaths of forest preserves and state parks are situated to the east and southeast, and the Delaware River is just a few miles to the west and north.
