Lakeway is situated in a transitional zone between the deserts of the American southwest and the humid, lush areas of the southeast. The region is officially designated as having a humid subtropical climate, which means summers and long and hot, while winters are short and mild with almost no snowfall. Lakeway receives less rainfall than the national average and approximately 230 days of sunshine each year.
The northwest edge of Lakeway is bordered by the Colorado River. There are woodlands and steeply sloped acres throughout the city.

For more recreation and entertainment, Lakeway is located about 40 minutes from Austin, two hours from San Antonio, and three hours from Houston, providing great opportunities for day trips or weekend getaways.
