    West Springfield is a small town in Fairfax County, Virginia, and a part of the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. Its relaxed atmosphere, historical appeal, and local attractions make it a desirable retirement destination. 

    Climate & Geography 

    In West Springfield, summers are warm and humid, while winters can be very cold. This region also experiences more snowfall than the national average. 

    The town is located in the Piedmont region east of the Appalachian Mountains. The surrounding terrain is mostly rolling, rocky foothills and deep stream valleys. It is bordered by Accotink Creek to the east and Pohick Creek to the west, and the Potomac River runs just south and east of the city.

    West Springfield is home to a quaint downtown, local businesses and quiet neighborhoods. There are also many nature areas including Hidden Pond Nature Center and Lake Accotink Park. Whether it's hiking, swimming, fishing, or sightseeing, residents have plenty of options to stay active. Golfers can tee off at the Springfield Golf & Country Club. 

    The town’s main shopping mall is the Springfield Town Center. Here, residents can find various shops, restaurants, and monthly events. Residents can also catch a bus tour, or drive themselves, to visit the historic U.S capitol city, Washington D.C., and all its landmarks and amenities.

    West Springfield’s overall cost of living is well above the national average, with the cost of housing and homes being the most significant factor at roughly double the average. While groceries and transportation costs are also above average, health care and utilities are just below.
