Affordable Florida Communities Near the Beach

Living in a community close to sandy beaches and ocean air is the dream of many people, and for active adults on a budget,​ it may seem like that dream is out of reach. But if you know where to look, your beach home is just around the corner.

Active adults enamored with sun, sand, and surf are likely to head south to Florida where all of these things are abundantly available. For some people, living at or near the beach where flip-flops and sunscreen are must-haves is a lifelong dream. If you’re worried that buying a home near the beach will mean breaking your budget, there’s good news. Affordable 55+ living can be found on the coast. You just have to know where to look.

Kings Point in Delray Beach – Delray Beach, FL

Below $100k – Mid $100s

Just under 10 miles away from the inviting Atlantic coastline is Kings Point in Delray Beach, where there are over 7,000 condo units occupied by beach-loving active adults. This 55+ gated community offers three clubhouses for activities, club meetings, and social events. There are two outdoor pools and plenty of shuffleboard and tennis courts. Condos come in one-bedroom or two-bedroom models, and range in size from 760 square feet to 1,100 square feet. Visit Delray Municipal Beach right off Atlantic Avenue, or Atlantic Dunes Park, where you can swim, surf, boat, or take a stroll along the boardwalk.

Sugar Sands – Riviera Beach, FL

Mid $100s – Mid $300s

Maintenance-free living and easy trips to the beach are available at Sugar Sands, a 55+ community located in the small coastal town of Riviera Beach in Palm Beach County. A total of 344 low-rise condo units make up this tightly knit community, where residents have access to boat docks and are less than a mile from both the City Beach and the shores of Ocean Reef Park. If you like your beaches a little busier, West Palm Beach is only 20 minutes away. Sugar Sands offers a number of activities and amenities, including art shows, exercise groups, golf tournaments, and a bridge club.

Villages of Seloy – Saint Augustine, FL

Mid $200s – Mid $300s

With over 42 miles of coastline and a reputation for being the oldest city in the United States, Saint Augustine has a lot to offer active adults looking for history, nature, and plenty of beach-going opportunities. The Villages of Seloy is a modern 55+ community in Saint Augustine, just under a short 30 minutes from local beaches like Anastasia State Park and Crescent Beach. The Villages of Seloy offers 240 attached homes in four models sized from 1,875 square feet to 2,461 square feet. Amenities include a fitness center, a pool, and a business center.

Plantation Golf & Country Club – Venice, FL

Mid $100s – Mid $700s

Residents at Plantation Golf & Country Club have a lot of choices. This 55+ community has condos, attached villas, and single-family homes available to active adults looking for a resort-style home that’s close to the beach. The most affordable models are condos that have between 950 and 2,000 square feet of living space. Reasonably priced patio homes and villas can also be found, and residents enjoy a long list of amenities. Most activities begin at the 25,000 square-foot clubhouse. There’s tennis, a restaurant, a putting green and a driving range, and a world-class fitness center. When you’re ready to swim in the gorgeous Gulf of Mexico, Turtle Beach is just over 30 minutes away while Nokomis Beach is less than a 20-minute drive away.

Spanish Main Yacht Club – Longboat Key, FL

High $200s – High $500s

Living on a barrier island is about as close to the beach as you can get in Florida. Longboat Key is a breeding ground for sea turtles and a fun place to spend a day swimming, snorkeling, or soaking up the sun. Spanish Main Yacht Club on Longboat Key provides access to the Gulf of Mexico and stunning views of Sarasota Bay. The property has a marina, a boat dock, its own private beach for residents, and kayak racks. This 55+ community is comprised of 212 villas with cable, sewer, water, and Wi-Fi covered by the homeowners’ association. Amenities include a pool, shuffleboard, a fitness center, and plenty of fishing and boating opportunities. Luxury beach living is possible, even on a budget, at Spanish Main Yacht Club.
