1 Community in Quinton

Overview

Quinton is a small community in Central Virginia, just east of the capital city of Richmond, where residents can enjoy low-maintenance and easy-going living in a rural setting. With plenty of outdoor amenities and surrounded by greenspace, active adults looking to settle down in a quiet, peaceful area will appreciate what Quinton has to offer.

Climate and Geography

The climate in Quinton is humid subtropical, which means summers are hot and humid, while winters are short and typically mild. Residents can expect higher amounts of rainfall than average, spread out throughout the year, and less than ten inches of snowfall in the winter.

Although it's situated within the Richmond metropolitan area, Quinton is quite rural. New Kent County, where Quinton is located, is mostly made up of rolling hills, with a mix of heavily wooded areas and agricultural land. The Pamunkey River runs a few miles north of the community, and Kent Lake is to the south.

Recreation, Culture, & Entertainment

Residents can enjoy local amenities like the Brookwoods Golf Club, Fox Pointe Farm Equestrian Riding Lesson, and Jolene Family Winery. Furthermore, local Crump’s Mill and Millpond, and New Kent High School and George W. Watkins Highschool are registered in the National Register of Historic Places.

The city of Richmond is about a half-hour drive away, meaning residents can enjoy the peace and quiet of the community's rural setting, while still having convenient access to all of the shopping, dining, and entertainment options that can be found in the capital city. The Baltimore-D.C. metropolitan area is also about two-and-a-half hours away, providing the perfect opportunity for a day trip or weekend getaway to see the sights in the nation's capital.

Cost of Living & Taxes

New Kent has a lower cost of living index than the state but higher than the national average with housing costs as the driving factor.

Income tax ranges from as low as 2% and 5.75%, and retirement income like Social Security benefits and railroad retirement benefits are fully exempt. Residents who are 65+ can claim deductions of up to $12,000 for other retirement income, depending on gross income.
