Castle Rock Climate & Geography
Castle Rock is located in Colorado’s Front Range region. The Front Range is a region of cities near the Southern Rocky Mountains. Colorado’s high altitude and the lack of water vapor in the air account for Castle Rock’s dry air. Residents experience hot summers with cold, dry winters and heavy snowfall—around 78 inches each year.
The terrain in and around Castle Rock is mostly rocky, mountainous foothills. The Rocky Mountains are immediately to the west, and to the east the foothills even out into the plains that make up the eastern half of the state.

In Castle Rock there are 87 miles of trails, 50 parks, and more than 6,000 acres of open space. Castle Rock’s historic landmark, Rock Park gives hikers a panoramic views of downtown Castle Rock, the Front Range, and Pikes Peak.
The community has a variety of events throughout the year. The Castle Rock Winefest is ranked one of the best five in the state. The Artfest showcases more than 180 artists from around the country.

Castle Rock’s cost of living index is higher than the state and national average, with a sales tax of 7.9 percent.
Colorado is somewhat tax friendly for retirees, with a retirement income deduction for Social Security benefits and other retirement plans such as a 401(k). Residents under 65 can deduct up to $20,000 while residents 65+ can deduct up to $24,000 out of their total combined retirement income. There is also a property tax exemption for residents 65+ who have been living in the state for at least 10 years.
