In the active adult communities we’re exploring today, residents enjoy more than just proximity to sandy shores; they live right on the water. It doesn’t have to be expensive, and it doesn’t have to be full-time. Many of these communities and homes are ideal for part-time residents, fondly called snowbirds by Florida’s full-time residents.

Century PlazaPompano Beach, FL

Low $300s – Mid $500s

At Century Plaza, beachfront living is low-maintenance and pleasant, with the meditative waves of the Atlantic Ocean right outside your front door. Pompano Beach is part of Southeast Florida’s Broward County, and it’s close to Interstate 95, making the area easily accessible from larger cities like Fort Lauderdale and Miami.

Buyers interested in this 55+ community on the water will find two attached, mid-rise buildings with elevators and security. There are 187 condo homes with 1,000 to 1,500 square feet, one to three bedrooms, and one or two bathrooms. There’s also plenty of covered parking as well as balconies with ocean views.

Homeowners can step right out of their building and onto the sandy beach. The outdoor pool offers an alternative to saltwater swimming, and there’s a sunny patio with plenty of shaded seating. Additional amenities include a clubhouse and lounge, a fitness center, a library, and a multipurpose room with a catering kitchen. Card games, fitness classes, and community parties are frequently held, and Pompano Beach offers a lot of activities both on and off the beach, such as the Hillsboro Inlet Lighthouse.

Royal Stewart ArmsDunedin, FL

Mid $100s – Mid $200s

Honeymoon Island in Dunedin is one of the Gulf Coast’s most tranquil settings. It’s a peaceful place for fishing, boating, sunbathing, and swimming, and migratory birds sweep through in April and October.

This 55+ community is right on the beach, and it’s close to the Indian River where there’s abundant fishing, great canoeing or kayaking opportunities, and exotic tropical flora along lagoons and swampy habitats.

There’s an area for picnics and alfresco meals, and inside the clubhouse, there’s a billiards room, a library, and a multipurpose room. Residents get together for parties and events inside and out on the beach. North Hutchinson Island and Orchid Island are just a few miles south, and the community is close to Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge.
