These Southern California 55+ communities make it easy for singles to enjoy their lifestyle.

As active adult communities have grown in popularity over the past few decades, there is a group of retirees who have been asking, “What about us?”

That’s because, until recently, many single active adults felt out of place in 55+ communities. Fortunately, it’s easier than ever to find large, active communities that put consideration into what their single homeowners want.

What makes these communities good for singles isn’t that they have clubs for mingling or dating, but that they let active adult singles enjoy the retirement they want. Whether that’s by getting back in the dating game or simply spending a fun and rewarding time with neighbors.

Sun City Palm Desert - Palm Desert

Low $200s - Low $800s

One of the most sought-after 55+ communities in Southern California is Sun City Palm Desert. With over 100 clubs, classes, activities, and sports leagues, there’s always a social activity to join in the community.

One of those clubs is for solos, whether you’re looking to date or not, it’s a good opportunity to relax and socialize with peers. But of course, there are all kinds of clubs or groups available for fun, including art clubs, golf leagues, wine tasting, hiking, and travel clubs.

All these events are held throughout the three clubhouses in the community. They’re home to social rooms for parties or meetings, sports courts, hobby rooms, restaurants, and 36 holes of championship golf.

Sun Lakes Country Club - Banning

High $100s - Mid $400s

Located in the popular Inland Empire, Sun Lakes Country Club is another good option for active adult singles. With over 3,000 homes there’s plenty of people to meet and clubs to join.

One of them is social singles, which has become a very popular club in its 11 years of existence. It’s become one of the best ways for singles in the community to meet new friends, enjoy dinner, take trips off-site, or enjoy live music. Other popular clubs and events include crafts, creative writing, 'Cruzin Cronies,’ friendship club, luau parties, and sports leagues.

Like Sun City Palm Desert, the community is home to three clubhouses. Their home to fitness centers, pickleball courts, two golf courses, pools, and craft rooms.

Laguna Woods Village - Laguna Woods

Mid $100s - Mid $1Ms

It will be no surprise that the largest community in Southern California is on the list. Laguna Woods Village has options for many budgets, several dozen floor plans, and is in an ideal location.

There are three separate clubs for singles in the community: the traditional singles club, life after fifty singles, and St. Nicholas Parish senior singles club. Active adults looking to mingle and make friends have plenty of options in Laguna Woods Village. There are over 250 other clubs too, including craft clubs, a symphony, acting clubs, and a women’s empowerment club.

Amenities in the community span seven clubhouses and a community center, so there’s plenty of places for social events. Some options here include two golf courses, equestrian facilities, sports courts, fitness centers, and a bar and lounge.

Sun City Shadow Hills - Indio

Palm Springs is a hugely popular weekend getaway spot, it’s also hugely popular among active adults. Sun City Shadow Hills in Indio is equally as popular as previously mentioned Sun City Palm Desert. It has over 3,000 homes and an extensive lifestyle program.

It also has a solos club, as well as plenty of other clubs and groups for those who want to enjoy time with like-minded peers. Those include craft clubs, RV club, several different golf groups, and a hiking club, among others.

The community is home to two clubhouses and Shadow Hills Golf Club. Homeowners enjoy two fitness centers, several sport courts, two pools, a billiards hall, and of course, 36-holes of golf.

Ocean Hills Country Club - Oceanside

Back near the coast in desirable Oceanside is Ocean Hills Country Club, which hosts 1,632 single-family and attached homes.

Another community with a solos club, Ocean Hills Country Club also has several dancing clubs, a hiking group, many arts and music clubs, game nights, and a travel club. Whatever your interest, there’s a good chance single active adults will find friends here.

Amenities center around the 27,000 square-foot clubhouse that has an exercise room, several hobby rooms, a photography studio, and a 500-seat performance hall. Outdoors, residents enjoy tennis, pickleball, bocce, and shuffleboard courts, and the 18-hole golf course. There’s also a pool and walking trails.
