There are many active adult communities located throughout the Charlotte metropolitan area, but there’s always room for more. Abingdon Housing Services agrees and they’ve begun developing Azalea Glen, a new 55+ neighborhood in the Catawba County city of Newton.
Development began in October on 70, one-level townhomes that will range from 1,320 to 2,250 square feet and will have two to four bedrooms. Prices are expected to begin at $179,500. The community will also include a clubhouse, CORE Fitness Center, and indoor pool. Located on Radio Station Road, the neighborhood will have easy access to Route 321 and is a short drive to downtown Newton. Shuford Abernethy, president of Abingdon Housing Services, told the Hickory Record that their hope is to have ten homes under contract before beginning construction. With five pre-sale deposits currently on record, their hope is to break ground this summer.
