Nearby Port Charlotte is also a good choice, especially if want to watch some spring training baseball. The Tampa Bay Rays have their stadium here, and there are also dozens of preserves and hiking trails to explore.

Venetian Falls – Venice, FL

In the heart of Venice and about 10 minutes from the beach is Venetian Falls. With its resort-like amenities and affordable home prices, this 55+ community of 700 single-family and attached homes has become a desirable place for active adults with brimming social calendars. Built by Centex, this community has homes ranging in size from 1,448 square feet to over 2,000 square feet. Several floor plans are available, and most models include two or three bedrooms with dens.

With a putting green, bocce ball courts, a huge swimming pool, and a state-of-the-art fitness center, it’s easy for residents to stay active. There are walking and biking trails as well as a resistance pool, a library, and an art studio. Classes and clubs cover everything from poker to ceramics to martial arts and water aerobics.

Park Place Estates – Port Charlotte, FL

Park Place Estates in Port Charlotte is quaint, cozy, and affordable for 55+ adults looking for a great place to live with lots of amenities. The community has 73 attached homes, offering an intimate neighborhood where you’ll enjoy many opportunities to meet and greet your neighbors. These homes are all on one story and are sized between 1,458 and 1,667 square feet. Each home has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and two-car garages.

The clubhouse, exercise room, and lounge are where most of the action takes place in the Park Place Estates community. Residents enjoy a game room, media room, a library, and there’s an outdoor patio space with a pool and a spa. Holiday parties and potlucks are frequent, and residents participate in group cooking projects and yard sales. This is the place to be if you like to feel connected to the people you live near, and you’ll also have the benefit of being close to beaches and cities like Sarasota, Tampa, and Fort Myers.

Kings Gate – Port Charlotte, FL

Golfers who are 55+ will enjoy Kings Gate and all its amenities in Port Charlotte. This community of 940 properties was built by Benderson Communities and offers reasonably priced golf villas and single-family homes. Homes have two or three bedrooms and some come with dens. You can choose a smaller house with just under 1,400 square feet or something a little larger, with up to 2,000 square feet. 

In addition to the 18-hole executive golf course, there’s space to play shuffleboard, tennis, bocce ball, and lawn bowling. The 30,000 square-foot clubhouse includes a library and a fitness center, and residents hold a book club, a singles club, fitness classes, and other community events. Amenities include a pool, walking and biking trails, and a theater. 

Plantation Golf & Country Club – Venice, FL

Mid $100s – Mid $700s

Condos start in the mid $100s at Plantation Golf & Country Club in Venice. They are two or three bedrooms and have between 948 and 2,275 square feet of living space. Homeowners also have a one-car garage or a carport for parking. If you want to spend a little more, there are also single-family homes and attached villas which start in the low $200s.

In addition to a comfortable living environment, residents at Plantation Golf & Country Club also have access to a 36-hole golf course. The clubhouse includes a fitness center, sauna, a heated Olympic-size pool, and a number of restaurants. There’s a boat launch and a dock, as well as racks for kayak and canoe storage. The canal and lagoon lead to the Intracoastal Waterway, and it’s just a short sail to the Gulf of Mexico. Residents at Fair Winds Village enjoy shuffleboard, picnics, bingo, and potlucks.
