Broward County is just north of Miami on the tropical southeastern coast of Florida. Residents here bask in year-round sunshine and enjoy recreational activities like golf, beach fun, fishing, and boating.

For a low-maintenance lifestyle, choose a condominium or attached villa in The Palms at Weston, a gated 55+ community made up of 382 properties in the suburban city of Weston. Low-rise condos are between 868 square feet and 1,881 square feet with one or two bedrooms. The villas are a bit larger, with two bedrooms and 2,600 square feet of space. With your annual homeowners' association fee, all outdoor landscaping, maintenance, and trash removal services are included.
The amenities in The Palms are great for staying fit and active. The fitness center includes an aerobics and dance studio where residents can take classes. All levels are accommodated, there is even chair yoga and a sit & fit class available.
Other amenities include a pool, beauty salon, library, and banquet room. Residents participate in breakfast socials, happy hours, and game night. Just a few miles west of the community is the Everglades Wildlife Management Area, which is great for hiking, biking, hunting, and camping. Peace Mound Park is also nearby and fun to visit with a Tequesta burial mound and plenty of walking trails to explore.
Meadowbrook Lakes – Dania Beach
Active adults who like to be closer to the beach might consider Meadowbrook Lakes in Dania Beach. The condos are in multi-level buildings and have one or two bedrooms and bathrooms. They range from 800 square feet to 1,200 square feet. Residents enjoy open floor plans, large master suites, and walk-in closets. Each unit has a screened patio or balcony. At Meadowbrook Lakes, residents are only a few minutes from the area’s award-winning “Blue Wave Beaches.” Dania Beach is also known for its Jai Alai and antique shopping.
Leisureville – Pompano Beach
For access to great shopping, beaches, and Interstate 95, Leisureville is a 55+ community for active adults in Pompano Beach. These 928 single-family homes and condominiums were built between 1961 and 1984. The community has a fun, retro feel combined with all the modern amenities and conveniences.
There’s a North Clubhouse as well as a South Clubhouse, each featuring a pool, patio, multipurpose room, and walking trails. The North Clubhouse also has a 9-hole golf course, shuffleboard, a fitness center, as well as a sauna. The community organizes transit throughout Pompano Beach if you need to run some errands or do some shopping but you’d rather not navigate traffic.

Potential buyers can find homes that start at 900 square feet and go up to 1,750 square feet. Single-family homes are two bedrooms, while attached homes come in one or two bedroom models.
Residents at Lauderdale West stay busy. Belly dancing classes, chair yoga, theatrical improv, and paper crafting are just some of the activities people regularly join. Amenities include a woodworking shop, shuffleboard courts, tennis, a pool, and a sauna. There’s also a library and plenty of lovely trails winding past scenic ponds and through lush landscaping. The community is close to Interstate 95 and Interstate 75, making travel to the north and the west of Florida extremely easy.
