This week's community spotlight is National Village in Opelika, AL.

If you’re looking for a slice of Southern comfort and charm, look no further than National Village located in Opelika, Alabama. This sprawling golf course community is located in the Montgomery area and offers over 4,000 square feet of outdoor recreational space as well as an amphitheater, business center, and event space. National Village is also a short drive away from Auburn, a vibrant college town, for those looking to continue education.

Connor Bros. Construction began building the community in 2006 and, when completed, National Village will have 1,400 single-family homes. There are three different home styles residents can choose from: Eagle Bend, Quail Ridge, and Stonelake. Most of the inventory are newer homes as there are very few resale options. Eagle Bend features eight different floor plans, ranging from 1,500 to 1,822 square feet with open layouts. All plans have two or three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and an attached two-car garage.

They feature front or side porches, high ceilings, granite countertops, and custom kitchens. Quail Ridge offers six different floor plans from 1,708 to 2,286 square feet, all with two to three bedrooms, two to three bathrooms, and a two or two-and-a-half car garage. They have energy-efficient materials, nine-foot ceilings, a front porch, rear deck, and stainless steel appliances. Stonelake has two floor plans that range in size from 2,600 to 3,700 square feet. All have three bedrooms, three-and-a-half baths, and a two-car garage.

They feature custom finishes, spacious layouts, screened decks, and an outdoor kitchen. While the homes at National Village are impressive, the community amenities are second to none, especially the clubhouse. The Auburn-Opelika Marriot Hotel and Conference Center features 114 guest rooms and 15 suites with golf course views for visitors. It also has a business center, 96-seat amphitheater, event space, heated pool, exercise room, and more.

Outside, there are three saltwater pools, a splashpad, a splashpool bar, whirlpool, and fire pits. For outdoor exercise, residents can utilize the many tennis or pickleball courts, as well as ten miles of wooded nature trails located throughout the community. Not to mention the multiple fishing lakes for those looking for an outdoor afternoon full of leisure. The real crown jewel of National Village though is The Grand National Golf Complex, featuring three 18-hole courses.

Built around the boat accessible, 600-acre Saugahatchee Lake, the Link and Lake Championship course have hosted many professional tournaments and residents of National Village receive discounts to play them. There’s also the Short course, which is free to all residents. Besides the course, The Grand National Golf Complex has a pro shop, bar and restaurant, locker rooms, and driving and putting ranges.

National Village residents are always planning exciting activities and events for residents to enjoy as well as numerous sports leagues and clubs. As a homeowner, you can join pickleball or tennis leagues, fitness classes, dancing lessons, and, of course, golf. A few of the community’s most popular activities revolve around the many lakes at National Village, which include boating, fishing, and swimming.

For those days when inside sounds more appealing, there are frequent card and board games. The community is conveniently located in Opelika and is just a few minutes from major shopping centers, including a Walmart Supercenter, Auburn Mall, and many restaurants. Healthcare needs can be met at East Alabama Medical Center and Auburn Medical Park, which are located nearby.

National Village is next to Interstate 85 and Highway 280, making it easy to get to nearby Auburn, where residents can continue their education or catch a major college football game at Jordan-Hare Stadium. All this plus National Village’s modern amenities and world-class golf make this community a desired place to live in Alabama.
