Most of the fun starts at the 25,000-square-foot clubhouse. Residents can gather in the ballroom for dances, dinners, and parties. There’s also a fitness center, a massage studio, a restaurant, a sports lounge, a catering kitchen, a card room, a billiards area, and a large outdoor pool. Residents also have access to five well-lit clay tennis courts, eight pickleball courts, and two bocce ball courts.

This is a dog-friendly community, as evidenced by the two dog parks and the wide sidewalks. A large event lawn is expected to host regular farmers markets, outdoor concerts, and picnics.

Living in Wimauma and the Tampa Area

Locals will tell you that Wimauma is pronounced “why mama.” It rolls right off the tongue, and the history of this town’s name is pretty cute. The founder of Wimauma had three daughters; Wilma, Maude, and Mary. He named the place by combining the first couple of letters in each name.

Valencia del Sol is located just half an hour from Tampa and less than an hour from St. Petersburg. This puts residents close to everything from art museums and professional sports to the history and heritage of neighborhoods like Ybor and Hyde Park.

Wimauma is also close to Sun City Center, a hotspot for active adults and snowbirds. Sarasota and Bradenton are just to the south and easy to reach from Interstate 75. Also, the community is centrally located and near some of the Gulf Coast’s best beaches and sprawling shopping and outlet malls.

Golfers are just a few minutes from dozens of championship courses. Some of the more popular ones in this area include Sandpiper Golf Club and Caloosa Golf and Country Club. About 20 minutes away in Tampa is Top Golf, a popular place for food, drinks, and driving range practice.

For nature, wildlife, and hiking, Wimauma and the surrounding areas are full of parks, preserves, and trails. The Manatee Viewing Center is one of the most popular places to visit in nearby Apollo Beach. Manatees gather in the warmer waters during the winter season, and there’s also a boardwalk and butterfly garden. Cockroach Bay Preserve State Park is just a few minutes away in Ruskin. It’s a great place for hiking, birdwatching, kayaking, and crab collecting. In fact, the chain of islands got its name because early Spanish explorers were astonished by the number of horseshoe crabs they encountered and called them cockroaches.

Residents who want a quick beach fix can get to E.G. Simmons Regional Park or Bahia Beach in 10 or 15 minutes. But, for a full day trip to a picturesque shoreline, beaches like Coquina or Anna Maria Island can be reached in half an hour.

Wimauma has some great restaurants for comfort food and Mexican cuisine. Taqueria Guanajuato is a favorite, especially when it comes to carne asada tacos, and Ana’s Restaurant is well-known for its breakfasts.
