Residents of Kissing Tree have a new place to gather for snacks, coffee, and conversation. This 55+ community in San Marcos, Texas, has opened a new bistro-style cafe called The Stump. Here, homeowners can grab a table and enjoy casual fare or take a seat at the bar, which offers beer, wine, tea, and soda.
New Cafe Amenities
The Stump is located across from Kissing Tree’s golf pro shop, making it a convenient spot for golfers to stop by for some refreshments. However, The Stump is open to all residents--not just golfers. With plans to expand the menu, this cafe will give homeowners even more options for a light meal or a glass of wine right in their own community.
The Stump got its name from the community’s unique and rich history. In the 1850s, Sam Houston gave what were called “stump speeches” during his campaign for Texas governor. Those stump speeches occurred right under San Marcos’ famous Kissing Tree. The 55+ community has plans to install an actual oak stump near the cafe, bringing the name full circle.
The Stump also features a wall showcasing the greatest Texas golf players from the past. This Texas Golf Legends wall allows homeowners and visitors to view a collection of photos and shadow boxes featuring famed Texas golfers.
Whether residents come to mingle over a coffee or to grab a quick bite, they can experience The Stump however they like. Homeowners can dine in or call and place an order for pick-up. The cafe is open daily from 7 am to 6 pm.
