The Retreat at Craig Ranch may be set in the Dallas suburbs, but this distinctive community is designed to be reminiscent of an earlier, small-town America. As part of the larger master-planned Craig Ranch community, The Retreat offers many benefits which support an active adult lifestyle, including a pedestrian-friendly design which allows residents to be less reliant on their cars.

Climate and Geography

Set in McKinney, Texas, the Craig Ranch master-planned community enjoys a sunny climate with hot summers and mild winters. Convenient access to Highway 121 makes it easy to travel through the surrounding area or visit neighboring cities like Plano or Frisco. Dallas, with all of its urban attractions, lies less than an hour south of the community.

The Retreat at Craig Ranch Amenities

To recreate a small-town feel, Craig Ranch was built around its own town center which contains a variety of shops, restaurants, and community services. The Retreat is just one small portion of the larger Craig Ranch community. It contains 166 single-family homes and is open to residents of all ages.

Throughout the development, wide walkways and extensive trails encourage pedestrian traffic, while vintage trolly buses are on hand to shuttle residents to destinations within the community.

Throughout Craig Ranch, residents will find a wide range of amenities and recreations, including all of the shops and restaurants found at the town center. A few of the community’s stand-out amenities include The Cooper Fitness Center & Spa, a local hospital, and, of course, the TPC Craig Ranch Golf Course.

The Retreat at Craig Ranch provides between 1,704 and 2,459 square feet of air conditioned space.

Designed by Tom Weiskopf, the TPC Craig Ranch Golf Course is an 18-hole course where membership is only open to residents of the Craig Ranch community. This par-72 course is designed to be challenging and fun for golfers of any skill level. It includes a short-game practice area, a dual-ended driving range, and a putting green.

In addition to all of this, residents who choose to live in The Retreat also have access to the smaller community’s 9,000-square-foot, two-story clubhouse. Here, residents will enjoy a fitness center, hobby and game rooms, and plenty of space to socialize with friends. There is also an outdoor swimming pool and a playground, which is ideal for visiting grandkids.

Surrounding Area

Beyond the Craig Ranch community, active adults will appreciate all that the McKinney area has to offer. Shopping centers such as the Fairview Mall, the Stonebriar Mall, and the Allen Premium Outlet Mall are all only minutes away. Other local attractions include the Garrett Art Gallery and the Heard Natural Science Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary.

With lovely homes, plenty of amenities, and a pedestrian-friendly environment, it’s no wonder that The Retreat at Craig Ranch is appealing to active adults. The community may not have an age-restriction, but it does have just what it takes to support a healthy, active adult lifestyle.
