Located in the Central Gulf Coast region of Florida just 25 miles south of Tampa, Sun City Center is a large 55+ active adult community with an attractive Florida location. Started by Del Webb in 1961, Sun City Center has over 6,200 homes divided into three campuses. Since 1972, several other developers have continued the building in adjacent areas. Sun City Center Lifestyle
Most homeowners at Sun City Center belong to one of more than 100 homeowners' associations that collect a fee for costs such as gardening and irrigation. Elected volunteer boards of directors manage each of the activity center facilities on the three campuses. Residents pay a yearly fee for the use and maintenance of the centers.
The centers provide the community with indoor pools, a walking track, fitness center with the latest model exercise equipment, an aerobics and dance studio, card, conference, billiards and arts and crafts rooms, photography, ceramics, stained glass, woodworking shops, a sewing and model railroad room, library, computer lab, dance halls, a theater, and banquet facility. Residents of Sun City Center have access to such a wide array of amenities and activities that there's something for almost every interest.
Residents have formed over 200 social, educational, recreational, and craft clubs and groups. A 10,000-square-foot Community Hall with a large auditorium and stage located in the South Campus is used for stage shows, dining, and dancing.
Outdoors, residents have ten lighted Har-Tru tennis courts, volleyball, four pickleball, two volleyball courts, handball and shuffleboard courts, three regulation size lawn bowling courts, horseshoe pits, and a softball field. The community has RV parking and storage area, gardening plots, and two dog parks.
Golfers in Sun City Center have access to eight golf courses. Every level of play is accommodated. All the streets of Sun City Center are available to golf carts.
Sun City Center Area
Although shopping and entertainment is available nearby, Sun City Center has four retail establishment centers with retail shops, banks, grocery stores, ten worship facilities, pharmacies, and a hospital within its borders. A half hour drive to Tampa provides Sun City Center residents with numerous ethnic restaurants, Busch Gardens Africa, The Florida Aquarium, a streetcar ride to Channelside for shopping, major sports teams, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tampa Bay Rays and Lightning, champion golf courses, and ocean beaches and water activities, such as sport fishing, jet skiing and parasailing.
