Communities for the 55+ active adult in Chandler, Arizona tend to be on the more expensive side, but some of the best lowest-priced communities do offer homes in the $100s and low $200s.
Chandler is an independent city of about 250,000 people in the Phoenix area and some of its appeal is that it offers all the advantages of being a part of a large metropolitan district, while also giving an easy escape into the Arizona outdoors. It lies at the very southern edge of the urban area, and its southern boundary is marked by the undeveloped lands of the Gila River Indian Community.
Chandler's location means that it is only a 30-minute drive from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport in one direction, and 10-15 minutes from Arizona desert landscape in the other. It also has all the facilities that a city of 250,000 can provide.
Nevertheless, despite house prices being generally on the high side, there are some communities in Chandler which have some lower-priced housing available. All three are at the southern end of Chandler, with quick road access to outdoor activities in addition to the communities' own amenities.
Sunbird is one block from the East Hunt Highway which marks the boundary between Chandler and the open lands of the Gila River Indian Community. It's a 20-minute drive from downtown Chandler, and about a 40-minute drive from downtown Phoenix and the international airport.

There are a large number of social clubs, classes, and activities to participate in, from aerobics to yoga by way of various arts and crafts, card and board games, a book club, Bible study, travel, and tai chi.
