Low $400s - Low $600s
Located just 30 miles west of our nation’s capital, Heritage Hunt is a gated retirement community with 1,863 resale condo, attached, and single-family homes. It was built from 1998 to 2009 by Lennar Homes and Patriot Homes and has more than 25 floor plans grouped into seven collections.
Two of these groupings have attached home models, and four are single-family. The 154 condo units are housed inside four buildings that have garage parking and elevators. The homes in this development range from 1,204 up to 3,217 square feet, with two to four bedrooms, with features like dens, luxury master suites, and gourmet kitchens.
One reviewer wrote some good things about Heritage Hunt’s amenities, commenting that the “professional golf course offers beautiful vistas and challenging play,” and that the “The clubhouse and dining area are beautifully appointed. The view is magnificent.”
The clubhouse also has an upscale aquatics center, with indoor and outdoor pools. A third recreation center, Marsh Mansion, has its own restaurant, meeting rooms, and a ballroom. These all provide ample room for the community’s groups and events to meet; some of the most popular ones are the singles' group, line dancing, and Canasta.
High $300s - High $600s
Also part of the Washington, D.C. metro area, Potomac Green was completed in 2016 by Centex Homes and Del Webb. This elegant active adult neighborhood has 1,400 resale condo, attached, and single-family homes, and some world-class indoor and outdoor amenities.
Potomac Green has 23 floor plans, starting with a cozy 890 square foot condo and topping off with the largest single-family model at 2,919 square feet. The condo units have a parking garage, while the attached and single-family homes have their own garages. Options include dens, lofts, granite countertops, and stainless steel appliances.
Residents head to the private clubhouse to enjoy the state-of-the-art fitness center, resort-style swimming pool, sports courts, and to take part in activities like Mah Jongg, arts and crafts, and tennis. “We absolutely love Potomac Green,” said one resident. “The clubhouse is fabulous and the people here are very nice.”
Low $300s - High $400s
This intimate community of 173 attached new and resale homes is in North Chesterfield, a suburb of Richmond. There are no age restrictions, but it's just right for active adults who value privacy, low-maintenance living, and proximity to local conveniences and attractions. The Village of Amberleigh broke ground in 1999, and builder R.E. Collier designed six floor plans. These offer two to three bedrooms, two- to two-and-a-half baths, first-floor master suites, Maytag appliances, and attached two-car garages. One homeowner wrote, “We were amazed at the uniqueness of the homes coupled with an unsurpassable quality.”
A private clubhouse offers homeowners an exercise room, a catering kitchen, a meeting room, and a library. Outside, you'll find the outdoor pool, patio, plus walking and biking trails. The Village of Amberleigh is built on 41 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds, and the sidewalks are lined with trees. Social types can join their friends for day trips, sports viewing parties, cookouts, and night outings. Richmond is known for its scenic beauty, and there are golf courses and parks nearby, plus lots of shopping, services, and highly-rated restaurants.
Low $400s - High $1Ms
Ford’s Colony also has no age restrictions, but there are many retirees who call it home because of its country club lifestyle, low maintenance features, and wide range of quality floor plans. “This is the best decision we've made,” said one homeowner.
This gated community will have 3,250 new and resale condo, attached, and single-family homes when completed, with a large number of models starting at around 1,700 square feet. The two condo buildings have parking garages, and some of the newer single-family homes can be custom-built to your specifications. Look for options like first-floor master suites, sunrooms, and hardwood floors in these must-see homes.
Ford’s Colony has three 18-hole golf courses, plus tennis courts, two swimming pools, restaurants, playgrounds for grandkids, and a 200-acre wildlife preserve. There are events and activities for all ages, like the Healthy Cooking group, the Colony Wine & Cheese club, and Silver Sneakers. This exclusive neighborhood is only about 10 minutes from Colonial Williamsburg, and even closer to shopping centers with grocery stores, restaurants, banks, a PetSmart, a Walmart, and a Target.
