Whiting is draped by two wooded parks, Brendan T. Byrne State Park and Double Trouble State Park, which offer hiking and biking trails, horseback riding, and other outdoor attractions.

The closest international airports are Philadelphia International (56 miles), Atlantic City Airport (43 miles), Newark (68 miles), and LaGuardia in New York (89 miles). The Ocean County Transportation Services Department also provides the Whiting Express local bus, which operates three days a week for one to two dollars a ride.

Country Walk of Lake Ridge’s proximity to almost 3,000 acres of open space provides residents with extra privacy, even though it is 15 minutes from the Garden State Parkway and 20 minutes from the Ocean County Mall.

The six attached floor plans range from 986 to 1,377 square feet, with one or two bedrooms and bathrooms, and attached one-car garages. The single-family homes come in three models from 1,789 to 1,868 square feet, with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and attached two-car garages. These homes may include features like patios, appliances, and walk-in closets. In addition, monthly homeowners’ association (HOA) fees apply.

Country Walk’s popular clubhouse has a comfortable great room with a fireplace, a catering kitchen and ballroom, an exercise room, and an arts & crafts studio. Warmer months find residents out by the outdoor pool, making use of the walking trails, and playing shuffleboard, bocce, or tennis.

They also take part in groups and activities like line dancing, the amateur radio club, horseshoes, movie nights, and ladies’ and men’s clubs.

Cedar Glen Lakes

Below $100k – Low $100s

Head five miles west of Country Walk of Lake Ridge and you will run into Cedar Glen Lakes, an active adult neighborhood with 1,236 resale attached and single-family homes. Its entrance is across from two intersections, where you will find coffee shops, a grocery store, pharmacy, bank, and a liquor store.

Cedar Glen Lakes’ four attached duplex models are sized from 544 to 1,300 square feet, with one or two bedrooms, one bathroom, screened-in porches, eat-in kitchens, and attached one-car garage or driveway parking.

The single-family homes are offered in three floor plans from 1,050 to 1,300 square feet. with one or two bedrooms, one bathroom, and attached one-car garages. The monthly HOA fee covers trash and snow removal, and lawn care.

There are two dozen activity groups here, including the garden club, a musical performance group, bowling leagues, quilting, travel, yoga, and singles. There are also two clubhouses, with amenities like a stage and projection screen, picnic areas, bocce, and a miniature golf course.

Crestwood Village 1

Below $100k – Below $100k

Crestwood Village is one of the largest retirement communities in New Jersey, and it has seven subdivisions, including the first, Crestwood Village 1. Built from 1965 to 1978, it has 1,016 resale co-op attached homes and its own golf course.

There is a total of 355 buildings with over 25 floor plans as options, These range from 537 to over 1,800 square feet, with one to two bedrooms and bathrooms, one-car garages, or assigned parking spaces.

Some of these homes have been remodeled, and/or include dens, new roofs, custom window treatments, and appliances. The HOA fee covers lawn maintenance and snow removal.

The private 9-hole, par-3 golf course heads the list of amenities, which also includes a free daily bus service to local shopping centers, a community clubhouse, bocce, and an outdoor barbecue area. The town of Toms River is 10 miles from here, and is a treasure trove of shops, restaurants, museums, and other attractions.

Crestwood Village 5

Below $100k – Mid $100s

Crestwood Village 5 was built from 1977 to 1980 with 1,114 resale attached and single-family homes. It has the same quality construction as the other Crestwood divisions, also with dozens of floor plans.

They range from 537 to 1,826 square feet, with one to two bedrooms and bathrooms, and assigned parking or attached one-car garages. Options may include porches, patios, and spacious master suites.

The private clubhouse has a multipurpose room, a ballroom, shuffleboard, and bocce courts. Homeowners also take advantage of the community bus, which takes them where they need to go. Popular clubs include Mahjong, book group, and the well-attended travel club. The community HOA fee covers exterior home maintenance, snow removal, and lawn care.

Crestwood Village 7

Below $100k – Mid $100s

This active adult community’s park-like setting provides the perfect backdrop for a low-key lifestyle. Completed in 1985, Crestwood Village 7 has 1,048 resale attached and single-family homes offered in 32 floor plans.

These range from 537 to over 1,800 square feet, with one to two bedrooms, one to two bathrooms, and assigned parking or attached garages. Some of these homes have features like porches, patios, Corian countertops, crown molding, newer roofs, dens, and three-season rooms.

Residents head over to the Fernwood Hall clubhouse to play bocce or shuffleboard, or attend events in its multipurpose room or ballroom. There is a travel club, an artists guild, and ongoing events like holiday parties, a craft show, and dances.
