    Overview

    Brownsburg is a town in Hendricks County, Indiana, just west of Indianapolis. Retirees are attracted to this town due to its low cost of living and neighborly feel. Besides these, there are also plenty of outdoor recreation opportunities to choose from, and many amenities for active adults. 

    Climate & Geography

    Central Indiana has a humid continental climate type, meaning summers are hot and humid, while winters are cold and snowy. Residents can also expect more rain than the national average. 

    The town is built mainly on low, flat prairieland, with plenty of subdivisions and a few golf courses. There is also the White Lick Creek, which flows through the majority of the town and passes west of the town center. 

    Recreation, Culture & Entertainment 

    Brownsburg is home to a small-town atmosphere and a tight-knit community. For those looking to get outside, there are plenty of parks and greenspaces to choose from. They are Williams Park, Arbuckle Park, Nature Valley Ranch, and many more. These locations are ideal for a family outing, camping, hiking, and fishing. Residents also love staying active by playing at some of the town’s golf courses such as Eagle Creek Golf Club and Brickyard Crossing Golf Course.

    The downtown area features many local shops and restaurants. There is also a comedy club and the Carmike Theatre, which are popular entertainment hubs for residents. The town is also within driving distance of Indianapolis, a larger city with plenty more amenities and attractions. 

    Cost of Living & Taxes

    The overall cost of living in Brownsburg is lower than the national average. This is primarily due to housing costs which are well below the U.S. median.

However, IRAs, 401(k) plans and private pensions are all fully taxable. There are several tax breaks for residents who are 65+ including a tax reduction on their property value.
