Huntley is a suburb of Mchenry County, near Kane County. Summers are long, warm and wet, while winters can be freezing and dry. Residents can also expect to see partly cloudy skies year round. 

Much like the rest of Illinois, Huntley is built on prairieland. It’s similar to a built-out suburb so residents can find plenty of golf courses, and a few small bodies of water.

One of the most popular attractions of Huntley is Tom’s Farm Market and Greenhouse, where residents can spend a day shopping, or just touring the greenery.

The cost of living in Huntley is higher than both national and state averages. The housing cost is higher than the national average. Other categories such as utilities and groceries are lower than the national average, while the cost for transportation is higher. 

Social Security benefits and other retirement income are not taxed. There are several tax breaks for residents 65 years and older, and homeowners are eligible for some tax exemptions as well. The sales tax in Illinois is 6.25 percent and Huntley does add a .75 percent tax onto that rate.

There is also Advocate Sherman Hospital which is ranked high performing in one adult specialty and four procedures.
