    Libertyville is a village located in Lake County, and is considered a far northern suburb in the Chicagoland area. Libertyville’s rich history dating back to the early 1800s can be seen by some of the buildings throughout the city. The village has a small-town culture with a close-knit community while still being able to access all of the big city amenities in Chicago, making it an attractive location for retirees. 

    Climate and Geography

    The climate in Libertyville varies greatly throughout the year with summer temperatures going over the 80s and winter temperatures falling below 20 degrees. Rain averages are around 36 inches of rain and snow averages are at 38 inches of snow per year. 

    Situated within the Great Lakes Plains region, the surrounding terrain is mostly flat land with a mix of residential suburban neighborhoods and nature preserves. The Des Plaines River makes up part of the eastern border of the village, and Lake Michigan is also just six miles to the east.

    Some of the top attractions in Libertyville include the Independence Grove Forest Preserve, Marytown-The National Shrine of St. Maximillian Kolbe, Lambs Farm, Lake County Forest Preserves, Bess Bower Dunn Museum, Independence Grove Dog Park, Fould’s Gallery, and Oh Olive. 

    Downtown Chicago can be reached in about an hour via car or public transit, providing even more opportunities for dining, shopping, and entertainment in the city.
