Absecon is a city located in Atlantic County. It is considered a suburb of Atlantic City, which is only seven miles away. Though it is designated as a city, Absecon has a population of just over 8,000 people, giving it a small-town feel. Residents can enjoy the many parks there are in the area, the boardwalk, and its proximity to other large metropolitan areas like Atlantic City and Philadelphia.

The climate in Absecon is classified as humid continental. Summer temperatures can reach the mid-80s and winter temperatures may fall as low as the mid-20s. Absecon gets an average of 42 inches of rain, 13 inches of snow, and about 201 sunny days each year. 

Absecon is separated from the Atlantic Ocean by the Absecon Bay—part of the Intracoastal Waterway—and several barrier islands. The city is also near the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge and the Great Egg Harbor Scenic and Recreational River.

The cost of homes and housing is extremely low compared to the rest of the state, and is even 30 percent lower than the national average.

While Social Security benefits are exempt from income tax in the state, all other forms of retirement income are taxable, however residents who are aged 62+ may qualify for a large deduction if their income is less than $100,000.
