    Matawan is a borough located in Monmouth County. Matawan has a small-town charm with a rich history dating back to 1686. Summers in this region are hot and humid, while winters are cold to mild. Residents can expect more rainfall than average, slightly less-than-average snowfall, and approximately 206 days of sunshine throughout the year.

    Most of the surrounding terrain in Monmouth County is relatively flat and low lying. There are also several bodies of water nearby, like Raritan Bayshore, the Manasquan Inlet, and the Intracoastal Waterway.

    The borough has a close-knit community and residents can enjoy a full calendar of free community events, such as parades and holiday gatherings, group exercise programs, a fishing derby, and much more. Many of the other popular activities in the area center around the natural setting of Matawan. Some places to visit include Cheesequake State Park, Henry Hudson Trail, Lake Lefferts, Freneau Woods Park, Oakshades Park, and Storyland Park. Matawan residents also have easy access to Atlantic Ocean beaches just a few miles away.

    Residents who enjoy visiting metropolitan areas will appreciate the location of the borough. New York City and Newark can be reached in less than an hour, Philadelphia is about an hour and a half away, and the Baltimore-Washington, D.C. area is less than three hours from Matawan, providing plenty of opportunities for day trips and weekend getaways to enjoy everything these cities have to offer.
