New Mexico is rapidly becoming a retirement hot spot, and those who want to settle in the Bernalillo area will love the resort-style amenities offered at Alegria. This Del Webb community is smaller than many others, but it offers active adults aged 55 or better plenty of social and recreational activities. There are indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a spacious clubhouse and dozens of special-interest clubs and groups.

Bernalillo Charm

Located in Bernalillo, Alegria sits on the banks of the Rio Grande at the base of the Sandia Mountains. The community is just north of Albuquerque and only 40 miles from Santa Fe, putting it in a great location for a wide variety of local attractions. There are museums, historic sites, shopping centers, and restaurants which feature distinctive New Mexican cuisine. The area also hosts numerous annual festivals such as The New Mexico Wine Festival at Bernalillo each Labor Day, Las Fiestas de San Lorenzo every August, and The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta in the fall.

Amenities in Alegria

Within the community, Alegria offers many recreational activities, as well as a full-time lifestyle director to help residents maintain their active social lives. The spacious clubhouse includes popular amenities such as a fitness center outfitted with cardiovascular and strength training equipment, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, hobby and game rooms, an arts and crafts studio, and a demonstration kitchen. Outdoors, residents can also make use of walking and biking trails, bocce ball courts, and horseshoe pits.

At Alegria, residents have the perfect blend of a community that caters to both socially minded and physically active residents.

In addition to welcoming new residents to the community, Alegria’s lifestyle director works with the social committee to develop exciting programs to meet a variety of interests. There are currently over a dozen classes and clubs at Alegria and new ones are being added all the time. Just a few popular groups include book club, Chicken Foot Dominos, Crafty Socializers, Dealer’s Choice Poker, and Tuesday Morning Coffee. Fitness classes feature favorites like t’ai chi, yoga, hiking and circuit training.

To get a real feel for life at Alegria, potential homeowners can plan a visit to the community with a Del Webb Day Pass. This handy day pass lets visitors tour the community and try out the amenities for themselves. While there, they can mingle with current residents, see the available single-family homes and stop by the design center to learn more about the new construction floor plans.

If Alegria sounds like it might meet your retirement needs, planning a visit will help you try the community out and imagine what life would be like in Bernalillo. While there, be sure to check out the local activities. You might find that New Mexico is the perfect place to settle into your next new home.
