Homes close to the Atlantic Ocean on Florida’s Treasure Coast are some of the most desirable pieces of Florida real estate to be found. The location is hard to beat as properties are close to the beach and near to great golf, shopping, and dining. There’s a lot of nature and wildlife in the area as well.

The Treasure Coast doesn’t feel overcrowded because it doesn’t draw as many tourists as Palm Beach to the south or Daytona and Cocoa to the north. It has its own peaceful, history-filled vibe, and active adults looking for affordable 55+ communities have several good options. These five have homes for sale under $150,000.

Colonnades at Fort Pierce

Below $100k - Mid $200s

Waterfront living does not have to be outside of your budget, even during a Florida retirement. Check out Colonnades at Fort Pierce, where buyers can choose a condo with one or two bedrooms and one or two bathrooms and have access to the Indian River Lagoon.

The community has a private dock and boat slips as well as plenty of storage for R.V.s and boats. It’s an intimate place to live, with only 250 condo units and a lot of social activities and clubs available to residents.

The location couldn’t be better. Colonnades at Fort Pierce is on Hutchinson Island and close to its seafood restaurants, shops, and barrier island beaches. There’s lots of wildlife to see and enjoy as well, with nesting sea turtles and passing whales and manatees. Units available with a price tag lower than $150,000 are between 564 and 1,300 square feet and include assigned parking.

Kings Isle - Port St. Lucie

Comfortable homes and a prime location in one of the Treasure Coast’s fastest growing cities draw active adults to Kings Isle, a 55+ community in Port St. Lucie that comes with an affordable price tag.

There are 987 single-family homes and attached villas, and the properties for sale have two or three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and between 964 and 2,088 square feet. 

The amenities in Kings Isle include a 15,000 square-foot clubhouse with a fitness center, driving stalls for residents to practice their golf swing, shuffleboard, tennis, and a private beach area with sand and sun. There’s also a pool and several enjoyable trails for biking, walking, or jogging.

Port St. Lucie offers residents all the shopping and dining they need, including Fernando’s Dockside Grill, which is a local favorite featuring fresh seafood prepared with a Portuguese flair.

Meadowood - Fort Pierce

Low $100s - High $300s

Golf course living doesn’t have to be out of anyone’s price range, especially if you choose a community like Meadowood in Fort Pierce. This Treasure Coast neighborhood does not have age restrictions, but active adults enjoy buying here for its lifestyle and amenities.

The Meadowood Golf and Tennis Club provides opportunities for social activities and golf. There’s an 18-hole course and five clay tennis courts. Pools, a pro shop, driving range, and a fitness center are also available. There is a fee to join, but residents pay less than they’d pay at other local golf clubs.

Single-family homes and condos are available on a resale basis in a wide range of prices. Buyers can choose a two or three bedroom resale property with between 1,400 and 2,000 square feet.

The community is close to a lot of the best local landmarks, including Fort Pierce Inlet State Park, a perfect spot for swimming, fishing, canoeing, or paddling. Geo-seeking has really taken off in this area, and hikers will enjoy the 30-minute oak hammock walk.

Tarpon Bay Yacht Club - Port St. Lucie

Condo living is low-maintenance and affordable, but it doesn’t have to be boring. Tarpon Bay Yacht Club is a 55+ community in Port St. Lucie offering active adults amenities like a boat dock, nature trails, a fruit tree orchard, and courts for tennis, shuffleboard, and pickleball.

There’s access to the St. Lucie River through Kitching Cove. Take your boat, kayak, or canoe out to the Intracoastal Waterway or the Okeechobee Canal. Only 120 condos are spread out over six three-story buildings, but two-bedroom, two-bathroom homes with around 1,400 square feet can be found around the $150,000 mark.

Port St. Lucie offers a lot of recreational options for water lovers. The closest beaches are Normandy Beach and Waveland Beach in the town of Jensen Beach. The North Fork St. Lucie Aquatic Preserve is an ideal place to spot manatees, alligators, and wading birds like herons, egrets, and wood storks.

Palm Grove - Fort Pierce

Low-maintenance living is possible, even when you own a single-family home. At Palm Grove in Fort Pierce, residents enjoy a homeowners’ association that takes care of lawn care, security at the guard gate, water and sewer bills as well as basic cable and common area maintenance.

This 55+ community comes with amenities like an exercise room, a gathering room, and a library in the clubhouse. There’s also table tennis, billiards, and a game room. Outside, residents enjoy a heated pool, a patio, and shuffleboard and tennis courts.

The homes for sale at Palm Grove are affordable and spacious. Sizes range from 1,305 to 2,766 square feet and have two or three bedrooms. Most of the resale homes have been upgraded with elements such as granite counters and stainless steel appliances.

The community is close to some of the Treasure Coast’s best golf courses, including The Champion Turf Club at St. James and The Evergreen Golf Club.
