Active adult living doesn’t always include golf, and there’s plenty of Florida real estate available to retirees and buyers who don’t want the noise, expense, and constant traffic that can often be found in golf course communities.

In Palm Beach County, there are dozens of 55+ communities that offer all the amenities and comforts that come with southern Florida coastal living, without the green fees and the wayward golf balls.

Check out these five possibilities when you’re looking for golf-free living.

Whisper Walk – Boca Raton

Below $100k – Mid $200s

With a name like Whisper Walk, it’s hard to imagine that this gated, 55+ community could be anything but peaceful, serene, and conducive to long morning strolls and leisurely coffees on your screened balcony, where you might look out at one of the several ponds located on the property.

Several well-respected championship golf courses are close to the community, but there isn’t anyone playing at Whisper Walk. Instead, residents enjoy tennis, shuffleboard, handball, pickleball, and five outdoor pools and spas. Homeowners get together for classes or club meetings in one of the five clubhouses, or host a picnic in the barbecue area.

There are 2,637 attached homes at Whisper Walk, and they have two or three bedrooms and two bathrooms. Most of the homes currently available are between 1,200 and 1,550 square feet.

Boca Raton provides lots of choices in shopping, dining, and art galleries. Great beaches are nearby, and locals favor Spanish River Park, a delightful spot on the Intracoastal Waterway for picnics, swimming, and fishing.

Palm Isles – Boynton Beach

For Boynton Beach real estate that feels like resort-living, Palm Isles hits the mark for active adult lifestyles that don’t include golf. This gated, 55+ community embraces social activity and group events. There’s a full-time activities director, and clubs such as a movie society, a singles club, bowling leagues, and creative writing groups.

An indoor pool and state-of-the-art fitness center allow residents to stay healthy, and there’s also a collection of shuffleboard courts, tennis courts, and pickleball courts. Inside the clubhouse, there’s a library, billiards room, and plenty of space for dances, card games, and performances.

Over 2,000 condos, attached villas, and single-family homes can be found at Palm Isles. Choose between two- and three-bedroom models and enjoy the low-maintenance lifestyle that this community affords.

Beaches are plentiful and close to this community, and you’ll also want to explore downtown Boynton Beach, where the Art in Public Places initiative gives visitors and residents the chance to experience modern art murals, colorful sculptures, and other works of art in everyday places.

A number of residents at Valencia Shores in Lake Worth may love golf, but not the idea of living on a golf course. If that sounds like you, this could be your 55+ community. There’s a putting green to help you get your fix, but no green fees or country club memberships required.

There’s also a long list of other resort-style amenities that leave Valencia Shores residents feeling pampered and comfortable. Enjoy the private lakeside beach, for example, or play a game of basketball or tennis. Inside the social club is a cafe, ballroom, and arts and crafts studio.
