With new amenities, new homes, and recent renovations, Canal Walk in Somerset, New Jersey is starting off strong in 2018. The main clubhouse received some interior updates last year, including new carpeting in communal areas, new marble tile in the foyer, and new stage lighting and an upgraded sound system for the ballroom. Added amenities include an indoor shuffleboard table in the billiards room as well as two outdoor shuffleboard courts. The homeowners’ association also bought new patio furniture for the outdoor pools at both of the community’s clubhouses, refurbished the putting green, bocce courts, and horseshoe pits, and plans to complete open pickleball courts this spring.

Residences

The Reserve, Canal Walk’s newest neighborhood, will soon offer 62 luxurious single-family homes by Premier Development. Located in the northeastern corner of Canal Walk, homes at The Reserve will be within walking distance of the 32,000-square-foot Premier Clubhouse that houses the bulk of the community’s amenities. These spacious two-story homes have 1,826 to 2,975 square feet of living space, offering two to four bedrooms, two to three-and-a-half bathrooms, and an attached two-car garage. Oversized lots offer plenty of space for landscaping and gardening.

Built according to New Jersey’s Energy Star guidelines, the homes in The Reserve at Canal Walk are thoughtfully designed for both comfort and efficiency. These homes will look beautiful as well, with nine-foot ceilings on the first floor, oak stair rails and balusters, and hardwood flooring throughout the first floor. Gourmet kitchens will boast granite countertops and pantry closets, while master baths feature marble countertops, an oversized soaking tub, and a ceramic tiled shower. Master suites are located on the first floor with plush carpeting available in a wide range of colors.

Current residents are already enjoying the single-family, attached, and condominium-style homes in Canal Walk. Offering a variety of housing options, this expansive active adult community meets a wide range of needs and preferences behind its gates. All of this is accomplished without crowding – plenty of tree cover, green space, and walking paths give the development a park-like backdrop.

Amenities

The community regularly hosts concerts in the elegant grand ballroom found at the main clubhouse. Past musical guests include Imperial Brass and The Duprees. The clubhouse is also where the community’s many clubs and activities take place. Residents can make new friends while researching their genealogy, learning how to take better photographs, planning the annual variety show, expressing themselves through art, or discussing books. Whatever the interest, Canal Walk offers a club, activity, or class for it.

When not participating in organized events, residents have plenty of options for recreation, relaxation, and more at the Premier Clubhouse. A cozy café is a great place to start the day chatting with friends over coffee.  An arts and crafts room features a kiln for firing pottery. A business center and computer room are available for getting some work done. A library holds a large selection of books and a fireplace to keep readers comfortable. Residents can exercise on a variety of machines at the fitness center, relax with a massage at the wellness center, then head to the beauty salon for a haircut.

With both indoor and outdoor pools and spa facilities, residents can go for a swim or unwind in a hot tub at any time of year. The smaller Freedom Clubhouse on the western half of the community has an outdoor pool as well, ensuring that no home is too far from a pool. This clubhouse also has meeting rooms, card tables, and a small kitchen – an extra social hub convenient for residents on the western side of the community.
