It’s safe to assume that most active adults would prefer not to get old. Unfortunately that’s not the case. Everyone ages in different ways but there some things you can do to live a healthier lifestyle and slow the aging process a bit.

Although you can’t turn back the hands of time, you can find ways to live a longer, healthier life. Whether you want to look younger physically or feel younger mentally, in the end it’s up to you. After all, feeling young is a state of mind no matter what your age. Check out our list of ten foods that help fight aging.

1. Olive Oil

Studies have shown that olive oil is full of healthy fats and polyphenols, which are powerful antioxidants. Olive oil has been shown to lower chances of heart disease and cancer and may help prevent other age-related diseases. So go ahead and add some to your salads, marinades, and dressings.

2. Berries

Berries are not only delicious but healthy too. They have vitamins, probiotics, antioxidants, flavonoids, and polyphenols. Researchers found that blueberries help reduce inflammation and oxidative damage in the brain, which effects memory skills and motor function. Berries can also promote cell regeneration for better skin.

3. Tomatoes

People often confuse tomatoes for vegetables when they are actually fruit. Tomatoes offer lycopene and vitamin C. These nutrients help with collagen production, enhance blood circulation, and protect against UV damage. The outcome is firmer, younger and radiant skin.

4. Honey

If you have a sweet tooth then honey is a great and natural alternative to calm sugar cravings. It’s an anti-viral and antioxidant source that doesn’t cause you or your skin to bloat like regular sugar. Honey can also be used in recipes or a beauty regimen. Use it to marinate your favorite foods or in facial masks to get rid of acne and prevent wrinkles.

5. Nuts

Nuts are another source of good fats. They have omega-3s and vitamin E that are great nutrients for your skin. Nuts are also anti-inflammatory to prevent acne, psoriasis, and eczema. Eating a handful of nuts in moderation is not only great for your skin but they can also help you fight off hunger pangs. Nuts like almonds, pistachios, and peanuts are a much healthier snack than grabbing a bag of potato chips.

6. Fish

You may not think of fish to combat dry skin, but it can definitely help. Nutritionists recommend eating fish, like wild salmon and tuna that are full of omega-3 fatty acids. When consumed, this healthy fat helps moisturize your skin from the inside out. Fish has also been found to reduce heart disease as well as high cholesterol.

7. Whole Grains

Whole Grains like oats, brown rice, and whole wheat are all diet-friendly and good-for-you foods. These items help you stay slim and keep you feeling full thanks to their fiber content. Eating whole grains stabilizes blood sugar levels and reduces the risk of diabetes, heart disease, stroke, colon cancer, high blood pressure, and gum disease.

8. Red Wine

Red wine is a great anti-aging superfood when consumed in moderation. It contains resveratrol, which has been found to activate genes that slow cellular aging. When drinking a glass of red wine you are protecting yourself against heart disease, age-related memory loss, and diabetes.

9. Green Tea

Green tea is another great anti-aging drink. Green tea has a lot of antioxidants and other nutrients that help cells regenerate correctly to make skin look healthier and younger. Drinking green tea may also lower your risk of heart attacks, reduce the risk of memory loss due to aging, protect tooth enamel, and improve your immune system.

10. Yogurt

Yogurt contains a lot of calcium and probiotics. Its calcium-rich vitamins help reduce the risk of osteoporosis. Yogurt also contains the good kind of bacteria to maintain a healthy gut to reduce intestinal diseases. Some studies have found that yogurt can reduce inflammation and oxidative stress and can improve certain skin problems like acne and psoriasis.
