As Texas continues to grow as a retirement destination, more and more 55+ communities are added each year. These new communities, as well as larger, established neighborhoods, offer sunny weather and a friendly tax environment.

To reflect on another big year, we’re looking back at the 10 best-selling 55+ communities in Texas during 2019. The list features a number of long-time favorites with some newer communities that are sure to be cornerstones of Texas’ retirement landscape for years to come.

1. Sun City TexasGeorgetown, TX

High $100s – Low $1Ms

Located 35 miles north of Austin in Georgetown, Sun City Texas is the largest active adult community in Texas. Residents have access to three 18-hole golf courses, each of which has its own set of challenges and characteristics. Sun City Texas offers plentiful amenities in addition to golf, including a 4,000-square-foot woodshop, gardening plots, and numerous outdoor tennis, bocce ball, and pickleball courts.

Del Webb started Sun City Texas in 1995, and construction is still underway. Active adult homebuyers can browse several dozen floor plans that range from 940 to more than 3,000 square feet. Whether active adults prefer a single-family or attached duplex home, they have a wide range of options.

2. Hill Country RetreatSan Antonio, TX

Situated in historic San Antonio, Hill Country Retreat is one of the best places to retire in Texas for active adults who want to enjoy the picturesque Texas Hill Country. This 55+ community is surrounded by several golf courses, including The Golf Club of Texas, which is the only golf course in the United States to feature 100 percent, tee-to-green Zoysia grass.

3. Frisco LakesFrisco, TX

Residents of Frisco Lakes have access to many amenities, including four tennis courts, four bocce ball courts, an outdoor pool and patio, and miles of walking and biking trails. It also boasts an ideal location in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

4. Robson RanchDenton, TX

This active adult community in Dallas-Fort Worth will contain a projected 7,200 attached and single-family homes upon completion.
