One active adult community in Green Valley in Southern Arizona offers condos as do two others in Prescott in Northern Arizona. Canoa Ranch – Green Valley, AZ

Canoa Ranch is a gated 55+ active adult community in Green Valley. It has 2,500 homes in all, including condos. It’s an easy 10-minute drive south along Interstate-19 to get to the center of town. Also, it’s a 30-minute drive south of Downtown Tucson and a 30-minute drive north of the Mexican border town of Nogales, where many Green Valley residents cross the border for less expensive dental and medical care.
Canoa Ranch residents have access to the many facilities provided by Green Valley Recreation as well as the amenities within the community. GVR’s Canoa Ranch Social Center is a five-minute drive from the Canoa Ranch community, and it has a fitness room, an outdoor basketball court, and four pickleball courts.
Amenities at Canoa Ranch itself include an indoor pool and spa, an outdoor pool, a fitness center, an aerobics and dance studio, a ballroom, an arts and crafts studio, and a hobby and game room. There are also dozens of clubs, activities, and classes organized by and for residents, including arts and crafts, dancing, card and board games, tennis, and pickleball. If you’re a pickleball enthusiast, you should know that a new 24-court pickleball complex is being built by the GVR Pickleball Club a few minutes away from Canoa Ranch.

Prescott Lakes – Prescott, AZ

Prescott Lakes is a gated community with 1,300 homes and no age restriction. It’s in the Prescott Lakes area of Prescott, a scenic part of town with hiking trails and, of course, lakes. Prescott’s historic downtown is a ten-minute drive away from the community.
Amenities at Prescott Lakes include both an Athletic Club and a Golf and Country Club; the latter offers an 18-hole course, a 14,000-square-foot clubhouse, a bar and grille, and a pro shop. The Athletic Club provides a 12,000-square-foot fitness center, an aerobics studio, indoor and outdoor pools, a spa, tennis courts, a basketball court, and a sand volleyball court. There are also a number of clubs, activities, and classes, including a walking group, line dancing, gardening, and card games.

Sun City – Sun City, AZ

One of the best bets for condos close to Phoenix in Central Arizona is Sun City, the nation’s first 55+ active adult community. With over 27,000 homes, there are always a large number of homes on the market, including condos.
The community is a 30-minute drive northwest of Downtown Phoenix, close to the cities of Surprise and Peoria, which are also suburbs of Phoenix. It’s also a 20-minute drive from the outdoor recreational opportunities in White Tank Mountain Regional Park, whose 30,000 acres include hiking, biking, and horse-riding trails.
Amenities within Sun City are numerous and include 11 golf courses, 19 shopping districts, 31 places of worship, a hospital, fishing lakes, several indoor and outdoor pools, and facilities for countless sports, arts, and crafts. The community also has dozens of clubs and classes covering sports, arts, crafts, dancing, music, card and board games, gardening, and dining.

Sun City Grand – Surprise, AZ

Sun City Grand has seven condo buildings among its 9,802 homes for the 45+ active adult. Located in Surprise, this community is a 40-minute drive northwest of Downtown Phoenix. Also, White Tank Mountain Regional Park is a 20-minute drive away.
Amenities at Sun City Grand include four golf courses and several large clubhouses. The Adobe Spa and Fitness Center, for example, has a 33,129-square-foot clubhouse, a fitness center, an indoor walking track, and indoor and outdoor pools. The 34,574-square-foot Cimmaron Center also has a fitness center, an aerobics and dance studio, a day spa, a woodworking shop, and an outdoor pool.
