Carolina Lakes offers a serene community in a bustling region.

What would you do with 55,000 square feet of space? Pretty much anything you’d want. That’s the idea behind Sun City Lakes House, which is the heart of Sun City Carolina Lakes, an age-restricted community that sits on the banks of the Catawba River in Fort Mill, South Carolina.

Homes Styles

More than 5,000 people from across the country call Sun City Carolina Lakes home, and the Sun City Lake House is just one of those reasons. This truly magnificent clubhouse and recreation center offer all kinds of social activities, fitness classes, and sporting events.

Amenities

Spread across 1,512 acres of vibrant, green grass, rolling hills, and lush trees, Sun City Carolina Lakes has 3,160 homes for you to choose from. Single-family homes, villa townhomes, and carriage homes with gourmet kitchens, expansive great rooms, and plenty of outdoor living space are perfect for entertaining with friends or just relaxing with the ones you love. With a variety of sizes, ranging from 1,090 to 2,597 square feet, these homes come as one- or two-levels, with one- or two-car garages.

The state-of-the-art fitness center includes the best in strength and cardio equipment, an indoor lap pool and spa, an aerobics and dance studio, and an indoor walking track. Included inside are classrooms, a woodworking shop, a grand ballroom, a cafe, computer lab, library, a pottery studio with two kilns, a stained glass studio, multiple game rooms, a demonstration/teaching kitchen, and more.

Outside, there’s an abundance of features to keep residents busy all week long. Surrounding the clubhouse are eight tennis courts, pickleball and bocce ball courts, and an outdoor resort-style pool. There’s also a softball field, basketball court, and a community garden.

Though the Catawba River—which is used for fishing, kayaking, and canoeing—lines one side of the community, Sun City Carolina Lakes boasts 10 beautiful lakes scattered throughout its campus. And more than 30 miles of walking and biking trails bring it all together with the community’s preserved wetlands, woods, and neighborhoods.

Did we mention the Carolina Lakes Golf Course? Tim Freeland designed the championship 18-hole course and Golf Digest named it as one of the Best New Courses Under $75. Though it’s a public course, residents at Sun City Carolina Lakes get preferred tee times and discounted yearly memberships. The clubhouse also offers a restaurant and a full-service pro shop.

Nearby Attractions

Wondering what there is to do outside of the Sun City Carolina Lakes community? Conveniently located near the North Carolina and South Carolina border, downtown Charlotte is just 25 miles away. There’s plenty of shopping, dining, entertainment, and hospitals nearby. Most everyday shopping, however, takes place at the Carolina Commons Shopping Center near the entrance of the community and is accessible by golf cart for residents.

If you’re still unsure about moving to Sun City Carolina Lakes, visit the community, talk to residents, and see what you’re missing. But be careful, you might not want to leave.
