For active adults who enjoy boating, there are several exciting retirement communities in North Carolina.

There are few things better than spending a day out on the lake boating, whether it’s to fish, soak up the sun, or just to enjoy a peaceful ride on the water when the weather is nice. It’s even better when you don’t have to travel far to get out there. Fortunately, for active adults who love recreational boating, several communities throughout North Carolina have direct access to some of the state’s most popular lakes.

Here are four active adult communities in North Carolina that are big on boating.

One of the community’s biggest draws is its direct access to Lake Norman.

Lake Walk Freedom Homes is located 20 minutes from Uptown Charlotte in the small town of Mooresville. With development having begun in 2017, this community will feature approximately 120 single-family homes upon completion. One of the community’s biggest draws is its direct access to North Carolina’s largest man-made lake, Lake Norman, which spans more than 32,000 acres and boasts over 520 miles of shoreline, giving residents plenty of areas to explore while boating.

Along with the easy water access, the development offers homebuyers five single-story floor plans to choose from, ranging between 1,588 to 1,906 square feet. Plans include two to three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and an attached two-car garage.

Notable amenities in the community include an outdoor pool and patio, bocce ball and pickleball courts, a dog park, and walking and biking trails as well as social groups. There’s also space for R.V. and boat parking for residents to use when they aren’t boating or camping.

Regency at Palisades is another active adult community located on the shores of Lake Wylie. It features 413 single-family residences with new construction and resale homes on the market. The neighborhood’s floor plans range from 2,000 to just under 3,000 square feet with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a two-car garage.

While the community is especially popular for its boating, it does also offer residents many other amenities, including a 12,000-square-foot clubhouse with billiards, a fitness center, and a multipurpose room. Additionally, there are indoor and outdoor pools, a whirlpool spa, as well as bocce ball, pickleball, and tennis courts. Over four miles of walking and biking trails are also available, and residents can join several clubs and social groups.

Residents will have no trouble staying fit and active with full access to the nearby Palisades Sports Complex. The complex features its own clubhouse, outdoor pools, fitness center, aerobics and dance studio, ennis courts, event lawn, and soccer complex. This complex is part of The Palisades Country Club, which is home to an 18-hole golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus.
