In 2018, 55places surveyed its users to find out more about what they want out of retirement and the active adult lifestyle. When asked, “Which amenities are most important to have in your community/neighborhood,” more than half of respondents said “walking/running track or trail.”

It’s no surprise that many active adult homebuyers searching for homes for sale in Texas want easy access to walking tracks. Regular brisk walking has huge health benefits, according to the Mayo Clinic. Simply by walking daily, active adults can maintain a healthy weight, improve their mood, and prevent and manage various conditions, including heart disease and type 2 diabetes.

Some of the best places to retire in Texas are home to indoor walking tracks, making it easier than ever for residents to pursue a healthy lifestyle. Here’s a look at four active lifestyle communities that allow homeowners to take a brisk walk or invigorating run from the air-conditioned comfort of an indoor walking track.

Sun City Texas – Georgetown

High $100s – Low $1Ms

Residents of Sun City Texas in Georgetown can lace up their sneakers and get some exercise along the indoor walking track in the community’s two-story fitness center. They can also enjoy the nine-mile network of walking and biking trails that surround the lake and loop through nature preserves and natural wooded areas.

As the largest active adult community in Texas, there’s no shortage of ways to stay physically and socially engaged in Sun City Texas. Homeowners can take advantage of more than 86,000 square feet of indoor amenities and hit the links at one of the community’s three championship golf courses.

Active adult homebuyers can choose from a mix of new and resale homes available in several dozen floor plans that range in size from 940 to more than 3,000 square feet. Whether active adults prefer a single-family home or duplex, they can find the ideal home to match their budget and preferences in Sun City Texas.

Frisco Lakes – Frisco

Mid $200s – High $600s

Situated in the desirable Dallas suburb of Frisco, Del Webb’s Frisco Lakes features an indoor walking track surrounding the community’s state-of-the-art fitness center. In this lakefront 55+ community, active adults can embrace healthy living in a variety of ways, whether they take advantage of the indoor lap pool, enjoy the community’s miles of walking and biking trails, or challenge neighbors to a friendly game on the four tennis courts or four bocce courts. Golfers marvel at the 18-hole Frisco Lakes Golf Club, which was designed by renowned golf course architects at Gary Stephenson Golf Design.

Upon completion, Frisco Lakes will contain nearly 3,000 single-family homes, with many homes offering stellar views of Lake Lewisville, green belts, or the golf course. As active adult homebuyers have come to expect from Del Webb, homes in this 55+ community are designed with the needs of active adults in mind. Homes require minimal maintenance and feature spacious great rooms, gourmet kitchens, and ample outdoor living space.
