As a result of its recent revitalization, Pittsburgh and its suburbs are attracting active adults in search of an idyllic yet affordable retirement. There are many vibrant communities here with both resale and new construction homes. For our purposes here, we’ll focus on the latter.
Here are four communities offering interested homebuyers new construction homes.
Low $300s – High $300s
Head north of Pittsburgh about 24 miles and you’ll run into Cranberry Township and Traditions of America at Cranberry, a 55+ neighborhood of 102 new single-family homes. It’s close to Cranberry’s city center, which has a Costco, a Walmart Supercenter, and the Cranberry Mall.
The five thoughtfully-designed floor plans range from 1,599 to 3,088 square feet with two to three bedrooms, two to three bathrooms, and attached two-car garages. Upgrades include patios, tray ceilings, bay windows, and sunrooms.
The community clubhouse has a relaxing patio, a heated outdoor pool, a bar and club room, and a fitness center with a yoga room. There’s also an on-site lifestyle director to ensure that there are organized social and wellness activities for whoever wants to join in.
High $400s – High $600s
This second Traditions of America 55+ community is closer to Pittsburgh, about 13 miles away, in Sewickley. This friendly village borders the Ohio River, and it has a nice variety of restaurants, shops, services, and medical offices; the local hospital here is Heritage Valley Sewickley.
Traditions of America at Sewickley Ridge offers 241 new attached and single-family homes and sought-after amenities. The five attached models are sized from 1,261 to 1,643 square feet with two to three bedrooms, two to three bathrooms, first-floor master suites, and oversized two-car garages. Options include sunrooms, fireplaces, porches, and second floors with additional bedrooms.
Plans are underway for a 7,700-square-foot clubhouse with its own fitness center, sports bar, and activity rooms; and like other Traditions properties, there will be a lifestyle director to keep your social calendar as full as you’d like.
Mid $200s – Mid $500s
Our second Pittsburgh area neighborhood built by Epcon Communities is in the town of Harmony, 40 miles north of the city and close to I-79. Scenic Ridge is just a few minutes from Strawberry Ridge Golf Course and the charming hamlet of Zelienpole, which has a community park and a mix of old-fashioned and modern stores.
Upon completion, Scenic Ridge will have 80 new attached and single-family homes. It doesn’t have age restrictions, but there’s an HOA with monthly fees to provide for snow removal and yard work.
The two attached models have 1,718 or 1,816 square feet with two or three bedrooms, two bathrooms, gourmet kitchens, and two-car garages. The six single-family models range from 1,519 to 2,930 square feet with two or three bedrooms, two or three bathrooms, two-car garages, and similar features to the attached models. There will also be a private clubhouse with an outdoor pool and patio, an exercise room, and a gathering center for meetings and events.
