My family’s experience with Mera Henderson has been one of the most stressful and heartbreaking situations we have gone through in years.
My 78-year-old father was supposed to move here in less than 3 weeks after months of planning. We toured the property in January, selected a unit, completed the application process, and were approved in early March. We specifically discussed parking because, at my father’s age, having reliable and reasonably close covered parking in the Las Vegas heat is extremely important.
Over a month ago, I was told in writing that my father had an assigned covered carport, although it would not be close to his apartment, and that he had also been placed on a wait list for a closer one.
As the move date got closer, I sent multiple emails and left multiple voicemails asking for updates. I received absolutely no response. I finally had to drive to the property in person last week because no one would return my calls or emails.
That is when everything completely unraveled.
The property manager informed me that my father did NOT actually have a reserved carport at all, despite us previously being told he did. Then I was told my father had never even been placed on the wait list we were assured he was on.
Instead, we were told he could simply use uncovered first-come, first-served parking. For a 78-year-old moving to Las Vegas during summer, that was completely unacceptable. There was no guarantee he would even find parking near his apartment. The idea that he could end up parking far away and walking in 110-degree heat was exactly the situation we were trying to avoid when choosing this property.
What upset me even more was when the property manager suggested my father try to get a handicap placard so he could park closer. My father is fully capable and does not qualify for one. I found that suggestion incredibly inappropriate and disturbing.
At that point, we felt we could no longer trust anything we had been told by management. We withdrew from the lease process and requested our security deposit back, which we are still waiting to receive.
The damage this caused to our lives cannot be overstated. My father was preparing to move out of state. Movers had already been arranged. Reservations had already been made. Plans had already been put into motion. Because this all happened less than three weeks before move-in, we were left scrambling to find another place that could meet his needs on such short notice. We couldn’t find one, and now my father’s move has been indefinitely postponed.
This entire situation created enormous emotional stress, uncertainty, financial disruption, and heartbreak for our family. I would strongly caution anyone considering living here to think very carefully before doing so. Verify every detail yourself and get everything in writing – but be weary that even getting things in writing may not matter. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend this property, and I would also be very wary of the inappropriate recommendations and misinformation provided by staff.
Community is amazing! Lots to do and friendly staff. They are happy to assist you and our Property Manager will ensure to make it happen! Elavators are provided and fobs for security of entering the building. Cable included and valet trash. I waited almost a year until they opened and I’m so glad I did!
