On a recent trip to Arizona, I had the opportunity to tour Green Valley – a popular retirement destination in Southern Arizona. The area offers a retirement living concept unlike any other place in the country. The town is comprised almost entirely of 55+ active adults.

Unlike most retirement communities where residents are limited to the activities and amenities of their neighborhood, Green Valley residents are part of a large conglomerate of interconnected amenities and recreation centers.

Location

Green Valley is located 25 miles south of Tucson. The town is comprised of over 12,000 households – nearly all of which are age-restricted. Green Valley Recreation Inc. (GVR) oversees all of the leisure and social activity for Green Valley’s residents.

Residences

Home buyers can select from many home styles and price ranges. A wide assortment of ranch-style villas, town homes, and single family homes are available. With home prices that range from around $50,000 to over $500,000, it is easy to find a home to match any budget. A majority of the homes for sale in Green Valley are pre-owned resale homes, but buyers who want new construction should check out Canoa Ranch and Traditions at Desert Creek.

Amenities

The community is comprised of 13 recreation centers that include 5 fitness centers, 13 swimming pools, 17 tennis courts, basketball courts, hobby studios, aerobics and dance studios, and much more. The Valley is home to eight championship golf courses offering scenic views of the surrounding mountains.

The large resident population of Green Valley provides for a socially robust lifestyle offering over 60 different charter clubs and interest groups. Regardless of your passion, you are likely to find other like-minded individuals who share similar interests.

A continually changing lineup of fun activities, events, and classes are available to the residents of Green Valley. There are over a dozen subdivisions in Green Valley. Every homeowner enjoys open access to any of the recreation centers and amenities of any of the other communities in Green Valley. The collective nature of Green Valley contributes to a unique retirement lifestyle.
