With a beautiful climate and world-class entertainment, the Las Vegas area offers a popular retreat for active adult retirees. The area is known for its sunny days, retirement-friendly taxes, reasonable cost of living, and, of course, the spectacular Las Vegas Strip. It’s also home to two popular active adult communities: Sun City Summerlin and Sun City Anthem.
Both of these impressive communities were built by Del Webb with amenities and homes specifically designed for active adult residents. They’re similar in size, with each boasting between 7,000 and 8,000 homes, many of which are available to purchase on a resale basis. Sun City Summerlin was developed first, between 1989 and 1999, while Sun City Anthem was built between 1998 and 2008.
Vegas Area Sights
Las Vegas is located within a basin on the floor of the Mojave Desert. The mountains provide a scenic backdrop, while skies are typically sunny more than 300 days a year. This beautiful weather is perfect for outdoor enthusiasts who will find plenty of recreational opportunities at nearby destinations such as Red Rock Canyon Conservation Area, Valley of Fire State Park, and Lake Mead.
Las Vegas Attractions
Those who prefer indoor activities are sure to be impressed by Las Vegas’ world-famous shops, restaurants, casinos, live performance venues, and cultural attractions. Beyond the Las Vegas Strip, visitors can explore the Las Vegas Natural History Museum, attend a show at the Smith Center for the Performing Arts, and much more.
Location
These two communities are built about 40 minutes apart. Del Webb Summerlin is located in Las Vegas, while Sun City Anthem is situated farther south in Henderson. Both communities are less than 30 minutes from the Las Vegas Strip, and they each are set at higher elevations that offer cooler temperatures than on the valley floor.
Golf
Golf is a popular amenity in each of these communities. The Revere Golf Club at Sun City Anthem features two 18-hole courses that travel through desert canyons and valleys of the foothills. At Sun City Summerlin, golfers can enjoy two 18-hole championship courses and one 18-hole executive course. Practice facilities, pro-shops, and on-site restaurants are available in both locations.
Amenities
While both communities feature impressive clubhouses with many of the same resort-style amenities, there are a few differences. Sun City Anthem features the full-service Serenity at Anthem Day Spa. Sun City Summerlin offers a few more recreational games, such as miniature golf and racquetball.
Whether you choose a home in Sun City Summerlin or Sun City Anthem, each community offers the indoor and outdoor amenities ideal for resort-style living in the beautiful Las Vegas area.
